Former Boynton Beach Tigers quarterback Lamar Jackson was awarded the 2016 Heisman Trophy in New York City on Saturday night. Jackson has played quarterback for the University of Louisville Cardinals since 2015. He threw for 3,390 yards and 30 touchdowns while he rushed for 1,538 and 21 touchdowns during his sophomore year in 2016.
Jackson was the starting quarterback for Boynton Beach through the 2014 season. He helped the school get into the FHSAA playoffs as the District 15-6A runner-up in 2013 and 2014. They were eliminated by the Miami Central Rockets in the regional quarterfinal both years.
It was the second consecutive year that a former Florida high school player won the Heisman Trophy. Derrick Henry from the University of Alabama won the trophy in 2015. He played for Yulee while in high school.
