James Reimer had a 46-save shutout, his 20th in his NHL career, as the Florida Panthers rolled over the Boston Bruins 3-0 at BB&T Center on Thursday night. The Cats are now 16-4-1 in their last 21 games.
The Panthers and Bruins have the best records in the NHL since the All-Star Game. Both clubs will face each other four times in the next three weeks.
Florida(35-26-7) pulled out to a 1-0 lead at the 6:25 mark of the first period. Evgenii Dadonov snapped a shot that went off Nick Bjugstad in the crease area. Aaron Ekblad was able to bat the puck in from the blue paint for his 14th goal of the year.
The same line would add on to the lead on their next shift at 9:06. Dadonov skated down the left side of the B's zone. He sent a cross-ice pass from the left wing and Bjugstad guided the puck into the cage from the edge of the crease for his 16th goal.
In the second period, the Cats converted on the power play for a three-goal margin with 5:53 remaining in the frame. Keith Yandle was at the top of the zone and found Vincent Trocheck on the right wing. He fired a wrist shot by Anton Khudobin for his 27th goal of the season. Barkov was credited with an assist and became the first Panthers player in a decade to reach the 70-point plateau.
Boston(44-17-8) pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in the final three minutes, however they were unable to score. The Bruins outshot the Panthers 46-28 in the contest.
