American Heritage At Venice Preview

The American Heritage Patriots head across the state and face the Venice Indians on Friday night. It is a rare clash between both schools in different classifications.
American Heritage(3-1) won their first three games of the 2020 season against Class 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna, Clearwater and Bartram Trail. The Patriots lost at home last week to Trinity Christian Academy 3-0 on a mistouched punt return and a field goal during the final 12 seconds of the contest. Quarterback Blake Murphy can connect passes to wide receivers Orande Gadsden II, Michael Watkins III and Jacolby Spells. Running backs Mark Fletcher and Jerry Dinkins will get rushing attempts.
Venice(6-1) has appeared in the FHSAA Class 7A state semifinals for the last four years and reached that point last year winning all their playoff games on the road. After a season opening loss to IMG Academy, the Indians compiled six straight wins over Raines, Lyman, Riverview Sarasota, Sarasota, Lakeland and Lakewood Ranch. They have outscored their last six opponents 323-40. Venice can go with running backs Steffan Johnson, Dam'rion Escort, Dylan Turner and Carson Smith on carries. Wide receiver Weston Wolf will be the primary target for quarterback Colin Blazek.
