Panthers Complete 2020 NHL Draft

The Florida Panthers finished the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday. The draft consisted of players selected from the second round to the seventh round.
The Panthers took left wing Emil Heineman in the second round with the 43rd overall pick. Heineman has played for Leksands IF in Sweden for the past two seasons. He had two assists in 11 games during the 2019-20 season and currently has participated in four games for them this season.
Florida decided on forward Ty Smilanic and forward Justin Sourdif in the third round. Smilanic was with the United States National Team Development Program U-18 club and is expected to play for Quinnipiac in college hockey. Sourdif played with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League and compiled 26 goals with 28 assists in 57 games played.
The Panthers went with University of Denver defenseman Michael Benning and Merrimack College defenseman Zachary Uens in the fourth round. Benning is the son of former Florida Panthers defenseman Brian Benning, who played for Florida during their first two seasons as an NHL franchise. Uens had four goals and 14 assists in 34 contests with Merrimack College during the 2019-20 season.
The Cats selected defenseman Kasper Puutio during the fifth round. He split his time last season between the Swift Current Broncos and the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League. Puttio compiled 28 points in 56 games in 2019-20 and joined Karput in Sweden for the 2020-21 campaign.
In the seventh round, Florida picked center Elliot Ekmark and goalie Devon Levi. Ekmark has played eight games so far for Linkopings HC in Sweden this season. Levi had a 1.47 goals-against-average in 37 games with Carleton Place last season.
