Stan Van Gundy Joins New Orleans Pelicans

Former Miami Heat head coach Stan Van Gundy has been named the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. He spent the 2019-20 season a game analyst for TNT.
Van Gundy was elevated to Miami Heat head coach just prior to the 2003-04 season and took over for Pat Riley. He helped the club reach the Eastern Conference Finals the following season and fell to the Detroit Pistons in seven games. Van Gundy left the post 21 games into the 2005-06 season. Riley replaced him and the club won their first NBA championship in franchise history over the Dallas Mavericks.
He would eventually return to the NBA sidelines. Van Gundy was the head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2007 until 2012. He followed that with a stint as the Detroit Pistons head coach from 2014 to 2018.
