Homestead Stops Columbus

The Homestead Broncos knocked off the undefeated Columbus Explorers 32-16 on Saturday night in Dade County. The Explorers are the defending FHSAA Class 4M state champions. The Broncos were a Class 3M state finalist and lost to the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders in the title game last year.
Columbus(6-1) rolled out to a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter. Homestead(4-1) moved ahead to a 19-10 lead by halftime. The Explorers could not keep up during the second half as they were outscored 13-6 in the fourth quarter.
The Explorers will be home in a week versus the Doral Academy Firebirds for a Class 4M District 15 clash. The Broncos will host the Southridge Spartans in a Class 3M District 16 contest next week.
