Phillies Eliminate Marlins In Game 2

The Philadelphia Phillies eliminated the Miami Marlins from the postseason with a 7-1 win in Game 2 of the National League Wild-Card Series on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies will face the Atlanta Braves in the next playoff round.
It ended the 2023 season for Miami, who lost their second postseason series in franchise history. The Marlins reached the National League Playoffs in a full 162-game season for the first time since 2003.
Philadelphia had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kyle Schwarber doubled down the right-field line and Cristian Pache crossed the plate. Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner followed with a base hit off the pitcher and through the right side for Schwarber to score.
It became 3-0 for the Phillies in the fourth inning. Former Marlin J.T. Realmuto smashed a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count.
The Phils loaded the bases during the bottom of the sixth. Bryson Stott belted a grand-slam homer to right-center field on the first pitch and gave them a seven-run margin. Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos scored in front of him on the play. It was the first grand-slam home run for Stott in his MLB career.
The Marlins avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth. Josh Bell singled up the middle and Xavier Edwards reached home.
