Hurricanes Surge By Panthers

The Carolina Hurricanes stormed by the Florida Panthers 4-0 at PNC Arena on Thursday night. Both teams are contenders for the Stanley Cup from the Eastern Conference.
Carolina(40-20-6) waited until 48.6 seconds left in the first period to go up 1-0. Jaccob Slavin sent a long lead pass from his own zone to Jordan Staal at the Panthers blue line. He had it poked away in the slot area. Seth Jarvis followed up and snapped a shot from the left circle past Sergei Bobrovsky to get his 21st goal of the campaign.
In the second period, it became 2-0 for the Hurricanes at the 2:46 mark. Evgeny Kuznetsov took an initial shot from the top of the crease and it was stopped. Dmitry Orlov ripped a slap shot from the left circle which was saved. Martin Necas smashed a slap shot from the right-circle dot for his 21st of the season.
The Canes make it 3-0 at 8:27 of the second. Jalen Chatfield connected a pass from the right point. Kuznetsov placed in a snap shot from the inner left circle for his seventh tally of the year.
The Panthers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with five minutes to go in the third period. Carolina increased it to 4-0 when Andrei Svechnikov banked a shot from his own zone into an empty net with 4:18 remaining.
Both clubs met each other just three weeks ago at the same venue. Florida(45-18-4) was shut out in both games that were played in Raleigh this season.
