The Florida Panthers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night. Both clubs have faced each other during the Stanley Cup Playoffs in two of the last three seasons.
The Panthers were coming off a three-game road trip. The Boston Bruins surpassed the Cats for first place in the Atlantic Division, Eastern Conference and National Hockey League.
The Bolts scored four unanswered goals in the first 27 minutes of the contest and held a 4-0 lead. In the first period, Steven Stamkos scored his 26th goal of the season just 20 seconds into the opening frame. Michael Eyssimont added his 10th goal of the campaign at 6:39 left in the first.
Tampa Bay(36-25-6) added two more goals for a four-goal margin during the second period. Darren Raddysh chalked up his fifth goal of the year at the 3:02 mark. Stamkos got his second tally of the contest and 27th goal of the season with the man advantage at 6:59.
Florida(45-19-4) would then mount a comeback. Matthew Tkachuk scored his first goal in nine games and his 22nd goal this season at 8:23 with a shorthanded goal. Sam Reinhart nailed a power-play goal for his 47th goal of the season at 11:55.
In the third period, the Panthers closed it to 4-3. Reinhart delivered his second goal of the game and 48th goal of the season with 3:52 remaining.
The Lightning wrapped it up on an empty-net goal by Nikita Kucherov with 1:32 to go for his 40th goal in 2023-24. It was the third time that Kucherov has reached the 40-goal plateau in a season.
