After being trounced by the Knicks in the second game of the season, New York continued the momentum against the Miami Heat with a 112-92 victory on Thursday night at American Airlines Arena. The Heat had their eight-game unbeaten streak at home snapped as they received their first blemish of the regular season in Miami.
It was the worst home loss for the Heat during The Big Three era that began in 2010. The Knicks now lead the Heat by 1 1/2 games for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Carmelo Anthony did not dress for New York due to a finger injury.
Miami(12-5) began the game on a 7-2 spurt and led 26-23 after one quarter. Neither team led by more than six points in the second quarter as the game was tied 53-53 at halftime. LeBron James had 18 first-half points and Raymond Felton got 16 first-half points.
New York(14-4) went on a 11-2 tear in the first two minutes of the second half and continued with a 32-14 run. They had an 18-point lead at 85-67 with three minutes to go in the third quarter. The Heat closed the margin to single digits near the end of the period and were down 90-80 after three quarters. The Knicks scored nine straight points to extend their lead to 102-84 at 6:03.
James fell short of a triple-double for the Heat with 31 points, ten rebounds and nine assists in 39 minutes. Dwyane Wade poured in 13 points while Chris Bosh had 12 points. Udonis Haslem put in all of his ten points in the first half.
The Knicks got balanced scoring without Anthony in the lineup as Felton led the team with 27 points and seven assists in 35 minutes. Steve Novak hit a bunch of three-pointers for 18 points and Tyson Chandler added 13 points.
