Former Miami radio sportscaster Phil Schoen is now with beIN Sport as a soccer play-by-play announcer. The Qatar-based organization launched their United States operations in August 2012. He worked at GOL TV, based in Miami, from their inception in 2003 until 2012 as a soccer play-by-play announcer, studio host and producer. In addition, he also announced the 2006 World Cup on XM Radio.
Schoen was known through the mid-1990's as a sports anchor for Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. He announced Fort Lauderdale Strikers games in the American Professional Soccer League during the early 1990's until the team folded in 1994.
He became the lead soccer play-by-play announcer for ABC Sports from 1996 until 1999 and called the first four Major League Soccer championship games in league history. Schoen joined 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM as a sports anchor when the station flipped to a sports talk format in August 2004 and stayed there for over a year. He also was the radio play-by-play voice for Florida International University football from 2003 until 2007.
