The Boca Raton Bobcats travel seven miles north on Interstate-95 to Delray Beach for a rematch and take on the Atlantic Eagles in a Class 8A regional semifinal on Friday night. The Eagles held off the Bobcats 21-9 three weeks ago in Boca Raton.
Atlantic(11-0) went undefeated during the regular season and blanked the Wellington Wolverines 34-0 last week in a regional quarterfinal. It is more impressive considering that they moved up to a higher classification this year and captured the District 10-8A title.
The Eagles run an ever balance of running and passing plays on offense. They have three running backs that have different styles of play with Shawndarrius Phillips, Lamar Washington and Gerrod Ferguson. Wide receivers Corey Gammage, Samuel St. Surin. Maxel Wells and tight end Ron Ulysse are targets for quarterback Zavion Thompson to connect with.
Boca Raton(9-2) began the regular season victorious in their first eight games until they fell to Atlantic and Wellington in consecutive weeks. They edged Palm Beach Gardens 27-26 in overtime while on the road in a regional quarterfinal. It was their first FHSAA playoff appearance in six seasons.
The Bobcats have Phillip Santiago at quarterback and he can run along with throw on any occasion. Running back Bryce Miller, a transfer from American Heritage, will be get the bulk of carries from the backfield. Wide receiver Charles Barnes looks to get open down the field for receptions.
