Brandon Pirri was the only player to score during a shootout between both teams on Saturday night as the Florida Panthers edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 at Amalie Arena. Pirri became the first player in NHL history to score a penalty shot along with a winning shootout goal.
Pirri gave Florida(7-7-3) a 3-2 lead on his successful penalty shot by Ben Bishop at 4:47 of the second period. The Panthers has an extra attacker along with a power play when Ryan Callahan was called for a delay of game penalty with 43 seconds left in the third period. Aaron Ekblad took a wrist shot which sailed into the Tampa Bay(8-8-3) cage five seconds into the power play to tie the game at 4-4.
Steven Stamkos was given a penalty shot at 3:09 of overtime. His attempt was stopped by Roberto Luongo and overtime continued. Pirri scored on the first shootout opportunity for the Cast to get the victory.
