Chaminade-Madonna And Berkeley Prep Title Preview

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions challenge the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers in the FHSAA Class 3A state championship game on Friday night at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee. Both schools met each other in the state semifinal last year and the Lions won 23-21. 
     Chaminade-Madonna(10-1) will be looking for their fourth state title in the last five seasons. They reached the Class 3A state championship game for the sixth consecutive year. The Lions have outscored their opponents 370-104 and have been victorious in nine straight games since their two-point loss to American Heritage in Week 2. They blanked Miami Edison 45-0 in a regional semifinal, routed Cardinal Newman 48-0 in a regional final and slammed Florida State University High 38-3 in a state semifinal. 
     Running backs Davion Guise, Duane Thomas Jr. and Jeremiah Avrilien will get their carries with the Lions rushing attack. Quarterback Cedrick Bailey looks to find his primary targets which are wide receivers Edwin Joseph, Jeremiah Smith and Thomas down the field. 
     Berkeley Prep(12-0) are undefeated and have compiled five shutouts this year. The Buccaneers have outscored opponents 478-128 this season. They shut out Bishop Verot 42-0 in the regional semifinal, defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 36-22 in the regional final and got by Lakeland Christian 42-14 in the state semifinal. 
     The Buccaneers will mainly rush the ball with running backs Travis Bates and Xavier Townsend. They have quarterback Troy Reader to call the signals and he can throw the ball to wide receivers Drew Canody, C.J. Hawkins and Townsend.
