Lakewood At Cardinal Gibbons Preview

The Lakewood Spartans travel to Fort Lauderdale and take on the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at Dr. Bud Tight Field on Friday night in a Class 4A state semifinal clash. The winner will challenge either Cocoa or Bolles in the FHSAA Class 4A state title game in two weeks at DRV Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Lakewood(10-2) has outscored their opponents 352-197 this season. The Spartans lost their final two games of the regular season to playoff-bound Chaminade-Madonna and Lakeland. The team bounced back as they held off Glades Central 27-12 in a regional semifinal and knocked off Clewiston 21-7 in a regional final.
Spartan quarterback Anthony Colandrea has taken every snap this season on offense and can occasionally run out of the pocket. Running backs Montravius Lloyd and Zyon Jerger will get their rushing opportunities. Wide receivers Amari Niblack, Terrell Crosby, Diezel Span and Aviyon Smith-Mack look to make pass receptions from Colandrea.
Cardinal Gibbons(9-2) are the defending Class 4A state champions and have won four straight games. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents 367-182 this year. They shut out Pine Crest 42-0 in the regional semifinal and got by Gulliver Prep 36-33 in the regional final.
The Chiefs have Dylan Rizk, who transferred from American Heritage, as their quarterback. He will look for wide receivers Davon Kiser, Gabriel Morgan, Jesse Anderson, Elisha Edwards, Komani Beneby and Patrick Stepleton down the field on passes. Running backs Kamari Moulton and Willie Reed can generate yardage with their rushing attack.
