South Florida High School Football State Champions

     South Florida high schools were involved in five FHSAA state championship games over the past two weekends. Local teams came away with four state titles. 
     Broward County schools ended up going 3-for-3 in the high school football finals. St, Thomas Aquinas captured a state-record 13th FHSAA state championship with a 42-14 victory over Tampa Bay Tech for the Class 7A title. The Raiders have complied 10 state titles in the last 15 seasons. Cardinal Gibbons won their third title in the past four years as the Chiefs got by Cocoa 21-19 in the Class 4A state title game. Chaminade-Madonna got their fourth state championship in the last five years with a 21-0 win against Berkeley Prep.
     Dade County teams ended up splitting their two state title games they were involved in. Miami Central got their eighth state championship in 12 years as the Rockets topped Merritt Island 49-14 for the Class 5A crown. Champagnat Catholic failed to get their third straight Class 2A state title as the Lions fell to Trinity Christian Academy 41-23.
