Mets Sweep Marlins

     The New York Mets swept a three-game series with a 9-3 victory over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Mets scored seven unanswered runs in the first five innings of the contest. 
     Miami(47-55) will begin a three-game series on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. New York(64-37) visits the Washington Nationals on Monday.

Inter Miami CF Ties FC Cincinnati

     Inter Miami CF tied with FC Cincinnati 4-4 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The next game for Inter Miami CF will be on Wednesday in California against the San Jose Earthquakes. 

Mets Sock Marlins

     The New York Mets handled the Miami Marlins 4-0 on Saturday night at loanDepot park. Miami47-54) looks to avoid the three-game series sweep on Sunday. The Mets have won five consecutive contests. 
     New York(63-37) got out a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Jeff McNeil smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his fifth homer of the season. Francisco Lindor later singled through the left field and Tomas Nido scored. 
    The Mets expanded their lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning. They got a home run from Lindor to right-center field on the first pitch. Two batters later, J.D. Davis homered to center field on a 1-0 count.

Mets Beat Marlins

     The New York Mets downed the Miami Marlins 6-4 at loanDepot park on Friday night. Miami(47-53) began a six-game homestand. Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara did not pitch going into the seventh inning for the first time in 14 starts. 
     New York(62-37) broke a 4-4 tie during the eighth inning. Brandon Nimmo connected with a two-run homer to right field on a 0-1 pitch for his 10th home run of the year.

Marlins Knock Off Reds

     The Miami Marlins defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-6 at Great American Ball Park on Thursday. The Marlins, who completed a seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record, scored three runs in the top of the ninth to overcome the Red Legs.  
     Miami(47-52) returns to South Florida tomorrow to begin a homestand. They first take on the New York Mets in a three-game series followed by Cincinnati(38-60) in a three-game series.

Reds Pounce On Marlins

     The Cincinnati Reds jumped on the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Wednesday night at Great American Ball Park. Both clubs will play the final contest of the four-game series on Thursday. 
     Cincinnati(38-59) piled up four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. A bright spot for Miami(46-52) was that J.J. Bleday smacked his first home run in the majors during the fourth inning.

Marlins Squeeze By Reds

     The Miami Marlins took the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 on Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park. Both clubs scored during the fifth inning. 
     Miami(46-51) put up two runs in the top of the frame. Joey Wendle singled into right field for Jesus Sanchez and Luke Williams to score.
     Cincinnati(37-59) got their only tally in the bottom of the fifth. Mike Moustakas blasted a solo home run to center field on a 3-2 pitch for his sixth homer of the season. 

Dolphins Signing Mohamed Sanu

     The Miami Dolphins will soon be signing wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. He will be part of a slew of wide receivers on the squad. 
     He played with the San Francisco 49ers last season and was part of their offense headed by current Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. Sanu has participated in the National Football League over the last 10 years.       
     Sanu had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. He captured the NFC title with the Falcons in 2016 and lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl LI. 

Danny Amendola Retires

     Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Danny Amendola announced his retirement on Monday. He played for five teams in the National Football League over 13 seasons and helped the New England Patriots win two Super Bowl titles. 
     Amendola joined the Miami Dolphins for one season in 2018. He had 59 catches for 575 receiving yards and one touchdown that year.

Reds Smash Marlins

     The Cincinnati Reds blasted the Miami Marlins 11-2 at Great American Ball Park on Monday night. It was the first game of the four-game series between both clubs. 
     Miami(45-51) got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Cincinnati(37-58) stacked up three runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to lead 10-2. 

Jayce Hawryluk Back In NHL

     One-time Florida Panthers center Jayce Hawryluk has returned to the National Hockey League after spending last season with Skellefttea AIK in Sweden. He inked a one-year, two-way deal at $750,000 with the Ottawa Senators. 
     Hawryluk began in the NHL with the Florida Panthers. He compiled 15 points in 57 games with the Panthers in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Robert Hagg Joins Red Wings

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Robert Hagg has joined the Detroit Red Wings. He signed a one-year contract worth $800,000. 
     Hagg was acquired by the Panthers from the Buffalo Sabres on March 20. He ended up with one point in 15 games for Florida. Hagg played his five seasons in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2016-17 to 2020-21.

Marlins Take Pirates

     The Miami Marlins got by the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 in 10 innings on Sunday at PNC Park. The Marlins took two of the three games in the weekend series. 
     The game was tied 4-4 as it headed into extra innings. The Marlins picked up two runs in the top of the 10th while Pirates garnered just one run in the bottom of the frame to end the contest.

Pirates Hold Off Marlins

     The Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Miami Marlins 1-0 at PNC Park on Saturday night. The Marlins were shut out for the fourth time in their last five games. 
     Pittsburgh(40-55) picked up the only run of the contest during the bottom of the sixth against Miami(44-50). Yoshi Tsutsugo singled into center field and Ben Gamel crossed the plate. 

New York City FC Blanks Inter Miami CF

     New York City FC shut out Inter Miami CF 2-0 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. It was the second straight contest that Inter Miami CF was blanked. They lost to FC Barcelona in a friendly 6-0 on Tuesday night at Fort Lauderdale. 
     NYCFC got out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute as Maximiliano Moralez scored with a left-footed shot from seven yards away. Heber Araujo dos Santos made it to 2-0 during the 75th minute on a left-footed, half-volley shot from four yards out.

Panthers Trade Huberdeau And Weegar For Tkachuk

     The Florida Panthers made a blockbuster trade as they dealt left wing Jonathan Huberdeau, defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, center Cole Schwindt and a 2025 first-round pick to the Calgary Flames for left wing Matthew Tkachuk and a 2025 fourth-round pick. The Panthers then signed Tkachuk to an eight-year contract extension worth $76 million. 

Cleveland Browns Ink Josh Rosen

     The Cleveland Browns have increased their quarterback core and have signed former Miami Dolphin Josh Rosen. It is a one-year deal between him and the club. 
     Rosen was with the Miami Dolphins during the 2019 season. He had 58 pass completions for 567 yards and one touchdown that year. Rosen played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 and the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. 

Marlins Rip By Pirates

     The Miami Marlins hammered the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1 on Friday night at PNC Park. The Marlins stopped a four-game losing streak. 
     After Pittsburgh(39-55) got out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Miami(44-49) put up four runs in the top of the fourth and pulled away. The Marlins scored for the first time in 38 innings. The Fish added three more runs in the sixth inning and had a six-run margin.

Michael Frolik Remains In Europe

     Former Florida Panthers forward Michael Frolik will be staying in Europe for the upcoming 2022-23 season with Bili Tygri Liberec in Czechia. He spent last season in the Swiss League. 
     Frolik began in NHL career with the Florida Panthers. He compiled 50 goals and 67 assists for 117 points in 213 games. Frolik was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks and eventually won a Stanley Cup title with them in 2012-13. 

Rangers Shut Out Marlins

     The Miami Marlins played their first contest since the Major League Baseball All-Star Game break and were shut out by the Texas Rangers 8-0 at loan Depot park on Thursday. It was the third straight game that the Marlins were blanked.  Miami(43-49) has not scored a run in their last 34 innings.

Marlins In 2022 All-Star Game

     The American League defeated the National League 3-2 in the 92nd edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night. The American League won their ninth consecutive contest and have a 21-3-1 record in the last 25 MLB All-Star Games. 
     Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was voted a starter for the National League, but he was injured and did not play. Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara was on the mound for one inning and struck out two batters. Miami first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper ended up striking out twice. 
     Former Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton was awarded the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player with his two-run homer for the American League during the top of the fourth. Miguel Cabrera, who is retiring following the 2022 season, made his final All-Star Game appearance. 

Sam Montembeault Re-Signs With Montreal

     Former Florida Panthers goalie Sam Montembeault will remain with the Montreal Canadiens. He has signed a two-year contract worth $2 million. 
     Montembeault was on the Florida Panthers squad in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He had a 9-8-3 record with a 3.20 goals-against-average in 25 games. 
     The Habs picked him off waivers prior to the 2021-22 NHL campaign on October 2, 2021. Montembeault went 8-18-6 with one shutout and a 3.77 goals-against-average in 38 contests last season.

WEFL-AM Adds Jose del Valle

     Deportes Radio 760 WEFL-AM has added Jose del Valle. He will be a contributor to their midday show Comunidad Deportiva on Wednesdays. 
     del Valle, who grew up in the West Palm Beach region, has been a national television on-air talent in recent years. He is currently a soccer announcer for ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes. 

Mike Matheson Traded To Canadiens

      Former Florida Panthers defenseman Mike Matheson was traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. The Panthers dealt him along with Colton Sceviour to the Penguins for Patric Hornqvist in September 2020. 
     Matheson was with the Florida Panthers for five seasons and helped them reach the postseason twice. He had 33 goals and 58 assists for 91 points in 299 regular season games with the Panthers.

Phillies Blank Marlins Again

     The Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Miami Marlins 4-0 at loanDepot park on Sunday. It was the second straight game that the Marlins were blanked by the Phillies. Miami(43-48) was held to just one run in the three-game weekend series against Philadelphia(49-43). 
     Both teams will be off after today's contest. The Major League Baseball All-Star Game break will happen over the next four days. 
     The Phillies scored all of their runs during the fourth inning. Alex Bohm doubled into right field for J.T. Realmuto to score. Matt Vierling followed with a double down through the left side and Bohm scored. Two batters later, Yairo Munoz belted a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch for his third home run of the season. 

Michael Del Zotto Signs With Panthers

     Defenseman Michael Del Zotto has signed a contract with the Florida Panthers. It is a one-year, two-way contract with no salary released. 
     Del Zotto has played for 13 seasons in the National Hockey League. The Panthers will be his sixth different team in the last six seasons. Del Zotto started his NHL career with the New York Rangers for five seasons followed by three seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Inter Miami CF Overcome Charlotte FC

     Inter Miami CF welcomed Charlotte FC to South Florida for the first time ever on Saturday night. They came back to win 3-2 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. It was the first time in Inter Miami CF franchise history that the team came back from two goals down to win a game. 
     There was a weather delay of 82 minutes before the start of the contest. Charlotte FC rocketed out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play on a goal by Yordy Reyna. He made it 2-0 for the visiting squad during the 42nd minute. 
     The second half would belong to Inter Miami CF. They trailed 2-1 in the 59th minute as Robert Taylor dribbled into the penalty area and scored from 10 yards out with his right foot. It became 2-2 when Gonzalo Higuain put in a right-footed shot from six yards away in the 72nd minute. Inter Miami CF took a 3-2 lead in stoppage time with a goal by Emerson Rodriguez as he blasted a right-footed shot from 11 yards away. 

Max Meyer Debuts As Phillies Pound Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies bashed the Miami Marlins 10-0 on Saturday at loanDepot park. Both clubs will face each other on Sunday then they will go into the All-Star Game break. 
     Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer made his Major League Baseball debut. He surrendered five runs on seven hits and struck out five batters in 5 1/3 innings. 
     Philadelphia(48-43) compiled two runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth and five runs in the eighth for the huge gap. Miami(43-47) was held to five hits in the shutout. 

Chris Tierney Joins Florida Panthers

     Center Chris Tierney has joined the Florida Panthers franchise. He has agreed to sign a one-year, two-way contract worth $750,000. 
     Tierney was with the Ottawa Senators for the last four seasons. He spent his first four seasons in the National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks and helped them capture the Western Conference title in 2015-16. Tierney was traded by the Sharks to the Senators for Erik Karlsson in September 2018. 

Harri Sateri Returns To Europe

     Former Florida Panthers goalie Harri Sateri is going back to Europe and leaving the NHL. He has signed a one-year deal with EHC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland. He played six games with the Arizona Coyotes last season and had a 2-2-1 record. 
     Sateri was once with the Florida Panthers and played one season with the parent club. He participated in eight games during the 2017-18 season and chalked up a 4-4-0 record.

Phillies Rush By Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Miami Marlins 2-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marilns were coming off a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 
     Miami(43-46) scored first in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead. Bryan De La Cruz hit a sacrifice fly into center field for Avisail Garica to score. 
     Philadelphia(47-43) leaped by the Marlins in the top of the seventh and led 2-1. Darick Hall knocked in Rhys Hoskins on a double into the left-field corner. Former Marlins player J.T. Realmuto came up next and drove in Hall with a double down the left-field line. 

Jason McCourty Retires From NFL

     Miami Dolphins defensive back Jason McCourty finished up his playing and retired from the NFL. He spent 2021 with the Dolphins and participated in seven contests. 
     McCourty is best remembered from his three seasons with the New England Patriots from 2018 to 2020. He helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LIII over the Los Angeles Rams. 

Richie Incognito Retires

     Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito has retired from the National Football League. He played 13 seasons overall in the NFL. 
     Incognito was with the Miami Dolphins from 2010 until 2013 and started 55 games. He last played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. 

Panthers Ink Evan Nause

     The Florida Panthers increased their roster as they signed defenseman Evan Nause. It is a three-year, entry-level contract. 
     Nause played 59 contests with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. He had eight goals and led all Remparts defensemen with 38 assists along with 46 points. 

Markus Nutivaara Heads To San Jose

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Markus Nutivaara has joined the San Jose Sharks. He has signed a one-year deal worth $1.75 million. 
     Nutivaara was with the Florida Panthers for the last two seasons. He had 11 assists in 31 games with the club. 

West Pam Beach Ratings June 2022

     The ratings were released for sports talk format radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. The ratings period went from the final week of May to the third week of June. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM fell from their 10-year high of a 0.8 to a 0.6. It followed the elimination of the Florida Panthers from the postseason. They have relied on Andy Slater in the mid-afternoon shift and Fox Sports Radio around the clock. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM had its first complete period with their new brand and programming and ended with a 0.0. The Greek tried to garner an audience with his mid-afternoon show. VSIN was piped in for all weekday and weekend time slots.

Greg McKegg Ends In Edmonton

     Greg McKegg will make his next stop in the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers. He was with the New York Rangers in 2021-22 and compiled five points in 41 games. 
     McKegg played parts of two seasons with the Panthers in 2015-16 and 2016-17. He placed eight points in 46 contests. 

Denis Malgin Back In NHL

     Former Florida Panthers Denis Malgin has returned to the National Hockey League. He has inked a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs at $750,000. Malgin played the last two seasons in Europe for several clubs. 
     Malgin was with the Florida Panthers for four seasons from 2016-17 to 2019-20. He compiled 60 points in 182 games for the Cats. Malgin participated in eight contests with the Maple Leafs and had no points. 

Marlins Outlast Pirates

     The Miami Marlins finished a four-game series and slipped by the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Thursday. Miami(43-45) has reached extra innings for the fourth time in their last six contests. Pittsburgh(38-52) split the series against the Fish. 
     The Marlins have won four of their last seven games. They next host the Philadelphia Phillies for three games this weekend. 

Reilly Smith Stays With Vegas

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Reilly Smith will remain with the Vegas Golden Knights. He has signed a three-year deal worth $15 million. Vegas traded Max Pacioretty for them to fit Smith under their salary cap.
     Smith has played all five seasons of the Golden Knights franchise history. He helped them win the Western Conference title and reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2018. 
     He was with the Florida Panthers in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Smith helped the club with the Atlantic Division in 2016 and was traded to Vegas in June 2017. 

Detroit Red Wings Ink Mark Pysyk

     The Detroit Red Wings have signed former Florida Panthers defenseman Mark Pysyk. It is a one-year contract at $850,000.
     Pysyk was with the Panthers for four seasons from 2016-17 to 2019-20. He had 62 points in 292 games with the club. He spent the last two seasons with the Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres.


Florida Panthers Add Rudolfs Balcers

     The Florida Panthers continued to make additions during the free agency period. They have signed left wing Rudolfs Balcers to a one-year deal. 
     Balcers had career highs of 11 goals and 12 assists in 61 contests with the San Jose Sharks last season. He played his first two NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators followed by two seasons with the Sharks.

Philadelphia Union Punch Inter Miami CF

     The Philadelphia Union beat Inter Miami CF 2-1 on Wednesday night at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Both teams faced each other back on May 18 in Chester, Pennsylvania.
     In the first half, Philadelphia got up 1-0 in the 25th minute on a goal by Daniel Gazdag. It became 2-0 for the Union as Cory Burke found the cage during the 65th minute. Inter Miami CF closed it to 2-1 in the 81st minute on a left-footed shot by Gonzalo Higuain. 

Marlins Charge Pirates

     The Miami Marlins found a way to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Wednesday night. The final contest of the four-game series will be tomorrow. 
     Miami(42-45) did not score until they got two runs in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead 2-1. Pittsburgh(38-51) answered back with a run in the ninth inning to even it up 2-2. 
     The Pirates picked up two runs in the top of the 10th for a 4-2 lead. The Marlins responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame which was capped off as Jesus Aguilar scored on a wild pitch for the walk-off victory. 

Inter Miami CF On 560 WQAM

     The Inter Miami CF radio broadcast against the Philadelphia Union was on AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM on Wednesday night. Play-by-play announcer Chris Wittyngham and game analyst Thomas Rongen called the contest. 
     Inter Miami CF game broadcasts started at Audacy sister-station Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM on April 9. They were streamed on the team website and on Onside Sports prior to that. 

Washington Capitals Add Henrik Borgstrom

     The Washington Capitals have added center Henrik Borgstrom to their roster. He signed a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $750,000 on the National Hockey League level. Borgstrom was designated as a restricted free agent and was not re-signed by the Chicago Blackhawks earlier this week. 
     Borgstrom played three seasons with the Florida Panthers from 2017-18 to 2019-20 and compiled 19 points in 58 games. He was traded by the Panthers to the Blackhawks in April 2021. 

Panthers Get Alex Lyon

     The Florida Panthers added to their goaltending core as they signed Alex Lyon. It is a one-year. two-way contract worth $750,000. 
     Lyon appeared in two games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. He was with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2017-18 to 2020-21. Lyon has a 7-7-3 record in 24 National Hockey League games. 

Miami Ratings June 2022

      The ratings were issued for sports talk format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region. The ratings period went from the last week in May until the third week in June. 
     AM 560 WQAM-AM dropped from a 0.7 to a 0.5 in the period. The impact of the short Florida Panthers playoff run did hamper the radio station.
     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM moved from a 0.6 to a 0.3 in the month. The Miami Heat were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Boston Celtics in seven games. 
     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained at a 0.2 again for the third straight month. The Miami Marlins have proven that they can get a consistent audience this season. 
     WAXY streaming went from a 0.2 to a 0.1. WQAM streaming stayed at a 0.0 for the third straight period. WKIS-FM-HD2 changed from a 0.1 to a 0.2 with the WQAM stream. 

Anthony Bitetto Joins Panthers

     Defenseman Anthony Bitetto has joined the Florida Panthers. It is a one-year, two-way deal worth $750,000. 
     Bitetto played 53 games last season in the American Hockey League. He has participated in 197 National Hockey League games. 

Florida Panthers PTO For Eric Staal

     The Florida Panthers have given center Eric Staal a professional tryout offer. His brother Marc Staal signed a one-year deal with the team earlier in the day. 
     Staal has been in the National Hockey League for 18 seasons. He was part of the Carolina Hurricanes for 12 seasons and won the Stanley Cup with them in 2006. 

Panthers Sign Marc Staal

     The Florida Panthers have signed veteran defenseman Marc Staal to a one-year contract worth $750,000. Staal has been in the National Hockey League for 15 seasons. 
     He spent his first 13 seasons with the New York Rangers and helped them win the Eastern Conference Championship in 2014. Staal played for the Detroit Red Wings over the last two seasons. 

Ben Chiarot Heads For Detroit

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Ben Chiarot has signed a deal with the Detroit Red Wings. It is a four-year contract at $19 million. 
     Chiarot was acquired just prior to the trade deadline on March 16. He compiled two goals and six assists in 20 regular season games with Florida. 

Blue Jackets Get Erik Gudbranson

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson has moved on to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has signed a four-year contract worth $16 million. 
     Gudbranson played his first five seasons with the Panthers and helped them win the 2011-12 Southeast Division title and the 2015-16 Atlantic Division title. He was traded during that offseason and has since played for the Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators and Calgary Flames. 

Nick Cousins Signing With Panthers

     Free agent forward Nick Cousins is expected to sign a contract with the Florida Panthers. It is a two-year contract at $2.2 million. 
     Cousins has been around the National Hockey League during his eight-season career. He has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights and Nashville Predators. 

Noel Acciari Lands In St. Louis

     Noel Acciari has left the Florida Panthers and joined the St. Louis Blues. It is a one-year contract that is worth $1.2 million. 
     Acciari was part of the Boston Bruins when they won the 2019 Eastern Conference title. He contributed to the Panthers reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs three straight seasons for the first time in franchise history from 2019-20 to 2021-22. Acciari had 46 points in 127 games with Florida. 

Dallas Stars Add Mason Marchment

     Forward Mason Marchment will be heading to the Dallas Stars. It is expected to be a four-year deal worth $18 million between him and the team. 
     Marchment was with the Florida Panthers for the past two seasons and helped them reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs both times. He contributed to them capturing the Atlantic Division title and the Presidents' Trophy. 
     He compiled career highs in several categories which included 18 goals, 27 assists, 47 points and 59 games during 2021-22. Marchment is the son of the former National Hockey League Bryan Marchment, who passed away at the age or 53 last week. 

Josh Brown Added By Coyotes

     One-time Florida Panthers defenseman Josh Brown will be heading to the Arizona Coyotes. It is expected to be a two-year contract. 
     Brown broke into the National Hockey League with the Florida Panthers in 2018-19. He had 10 points in 93 games with the Panthers in two seasons. 

Nick Bjugstad Enters Arizona

     Former Florida Panthers center Nick Bjugstad is leaving his home state of Minnesota and the Minnesota Wild. He has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes at $900,000. 
     Bjugstad spent seven seasons with the Florida Panthers and composed 191 points in 394 games with the club. He was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins in February 2019 and was with the Minnesota Wild for the last two seasons. 

Florida Panthers Sign Colin White

     The Florida Panthers have agreed to sign center Colin White. It will be a one-year deal worth $1.2 million. 
     White has been with the Ottawa Senators for his entire National Hockey League career of six seasons. He put together 36 goals and 62 points for 98 points in 224 contests. 

Frank Vatrano Going To Anaheim

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Frank Vatrano will be joining the Anaheim Ducks. He will sign a three-year contract worth $10.95 million. 
     Vatrano was with the Florida Panthers for parts of five seasons. He composed 73 goals and 53 assists for 126 points in 271 games. He was dealt by the Panthers to the New York Rangers on March 16. 

Panthers Ink Nathan Staios

     The Florida Panthers have signed defenseman Nathan Staios to a deal. It is a three-year, entry-level contract between him and the club worth $2.85 million. 
     Staios was named the CHL Defensive Player of the Year and the Max Kaminsky Trophy winner for Most Outstanding Defenseman in the Ontario Hockey League. He has played junior hockey with the Hamilton Bulldogs and set a team record with 66 points by a defenseman. 
     Staios led all Ontario Hockey League defensemen in points in 2021-22 and helped the Bulldogs win the OHL Championship. His father Steve Staios played in the National Hockey League for 16 seasons from 1995-96 to 2011-12 and participated in 1,001 games. 

Vincent Trocheck Signs With Rangers

     Former Florida Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck has signed a contract with the New York Rangers. It is a seven-year deal worth $39.375 million. 
     Trocheck played his first seven National Hockey League seasons with the Florida Panthers. He compiled 111 goals and 171 assists in 471 regular season games while with the Cats. He was traded by Florida to the Carolina Hurricanes on February 24, 2020. 

Claude Giroux Leaves For Senators

     Free agent center Claude Giroux has left the Florida Panthers and joined the Ottawa Senators. It is a three-year deal worth $19 million. 
     Giroux spent his entire National Hockey League career with the Philadelphia Flyers. He was traded to the Panthers on March 19. He contributed three goals in 17 assists for 20 points in 23 games with Florida. 
     He helped the Panthers capture their first Presidents' Trophy in franchise history with the best regular season record. Giroux also contributed to them winning their first playoff series since 1996. 

Andrew Brunette Joining New Jersey Devils

     Former Florida Panthers interim head coach Andrew Brunette will be joining the coaching staff of the New Jersey Devils. He will be an associate coach under Devils head coach Lindy Ruff. 
     Brunette took over as interim head coach seven games into the 2021-22 campaign and replaced head coach Joel Quenneville who resigned. Brunette guided the Panthers to the best record in the National Hockey League and captured the Presidents' Trophy. The club also reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season for the first time in franchise history. He coached the team to their first playoff series win in 26 years.

Louis Head Gone From Marlins

     Miami Marlins relief pitcher Louis Head has been picked up by the Baltimore Orioles. He was claimed off waivers by Baltimore and was sent to their Triple-A affiliate. 
     Head spent the 2022 season with the Miami Marlins. He made 23 relief appearances, had one save and a 7.23 earned runs average in 23 2/3 innings pitched. 

Pirates Slip By Marlins

     The Pittsburgh Pirates got by the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. It was the second of four meetings between both clubs this week. 
     The Pirates stormed ahead 1-0 in the third inning. Jake Marisnick connected with a solo home run to left field on the first pitch. 
     Miami(41-45) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the frame. Joey Wendle hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Brian Anderson crossed the plate. 
     Pittsburgh(38-50) recaptured the lead 3-1 in the top of the fifth. Oneil Cruz tripled to deep right and Diego Castillo scored. Jason Delay then knocked in Cruz with a base hit into center field. 
     The Marlins made it 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Fortes singled through the left side for Miguel Rojas to reach home. 

Vinnie Hinostroza Remains In Buffalo

      Former Florida Panthers center Vinnie Hinostroza will be staying with the Buffalo Sabres. He signed a one-year contract for the 2022-23 season worth $1.7 million. 
     Hinostroza played just nine games at the during the 2020-21 campaign with the Florida Panthers and had no points. He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Brad Morrison on April 2, 2021. 

Garrett Cooper Makes All-Star Team

     Miami Marlins first baseman and outfielder Garrett Cooper has been named to the National League All-Star Team on Tuesday. He will be involved in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 19 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. 
     He joins teammates Jazz Chisholm Jr. and pitcher Sandy Alcantara on the National League roster. Cooper has seven home runs, 40 runs batted in, .289 batting average and a .826 OPS in 76 games this season with Miami.

Pirates Sail by Marlins

     The Pittsburgh Pirates got a 5-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins, who have lost three of their last five contests, opened up a seven-game homestand prior to the MLB All-Star Game. 
     Pittsburgh(37-50) bolted out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Diego Castillo drove in Kevin Newman and Ke'Bryan Hayes with a base hit into center field. 
     The Pirates made it a three-run margin in the top of the second. Newman doubled to center field and former Marlins player Jake Marisnick scored. 
     Miami(41-44) cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Avisail Garcia singled through the left side of the field and Garrett Cooper crossed the plate. 
     The Bucs added two more runs in the ninth inning for a 5-1 lead. Josh VanMeter led off the frame with a double into center field. Marisnick followed with a two-run homer to left field on a 0-2 pitch for his first home run in a Pirates uniform. 

Borgstrom and Connolly To Become Free Agents

     Two former Florida Panthers forward 'Henrik Borgstrom and Brett Connolly are able to become unrestricted free agents. Both were placed on unconditional waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks and currently labeled restricted free agents. 
     Borgstrom was with Florida for three seasons while Connolly was a part of the Panthers team for parts of two seasons. Both were traded by the Panthers along with Riley Stillman to the Blackhawks in a five-player trade for Lucas Carlsson and Lucas Wallmark on April 8, 2021.

Sandy Alcantara Named All-Star

     Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara has been named a National League All-Star. It is his first selection to play in the Mid-Summer Classic. The 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 19. 
     Alcantara, who is in his fifth season with the Marlins, has a 9-3 record this season with Miami. He pitched at least seven innings for the 12th consecutive start on Sunday. 

Marlins Shut Out Mets

     The Miami Marlins blanked the New York Mets 2-0 at Citi Field in 100 innings on Sunday. It was the second straight game that both teams played in extra innings. Miami picked up their fourth shutout of the 2022 campaign. 
     The Marlins have been victorious in eight of their 11 contests. The Fish will play their next seven games at home before the 2022 All-Star Game break. They will face the Pittsburgh Pirates in four games followed by the Philadelphia Phillies in three contests. 
     Both Miami(41-43) and New York(53-33) were held scoreless in the first nine innings. The Marlins eventually took the lead 1-0 lead when pinch-runner Billy Hamilton stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error by Mets catcher Tomas Nido. Five batters later, Luke Williams singled into center field and Jesus Sanchez crossed the plate. 

Inter Miami CF Falls To Orlando City SC

     Inter Miami CF was blanked by Orlando City SC 1-0 at Exploria Stadium on Saturday night. There was a three-hour weather delay and the game began after 11:00 p.m.
     The only goal of the contest happened for Orlando City SC during stoppage time in the second half. Inter Miami CF ended up putting in an own goal by defender Damion Lowe.

Mets Walk Off Marlins

     The New York Mets edged the Miami Marlins 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday at Citi Field. The Mets look to take the four-game sweep against the Marlins on Sunday. 
     New York(53-32) was able to get their fourth walk-off victory so far during the 2022 Major League Baseball season. Miami(40-43) ended with a walk-off loss for the seventh time this year. 
     The Mets retired uniform number 17 for first baseman Keith Hernandez prior to the contest. The club had retired uniform numbers previously of number 37 Casey Stengel, number 14 Gil Hodges, number 41 Tom Seaver, number 31 Mike Piazza, number 36 Jerry Koosman and number 42 Jackie Robinson.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. All-Star Game Starter

     Major League Baseball announced the starters of the National League and American League for the 2022 All-Star Game. It will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 19. 
     Miami Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was named a National League starter. It will be Chisholm's first start in the Mid-Summer Classic. Chisholm has 14 home runs, 45 runs batted in, 12 stolen bases, .254 batting average and an .860 OPS in 60 games this season. 

Marlins Hold Off Mets

     The Miami Marlins knocked off the New York Mets 5-2 on Friday night at Citi Field. The Marlins have won seven of their last nine games. 

Florida Panthers 2022 NHL Draft Picks

     The 2022 NHL Draft continued consisting of the second round through the seventh round at Bell Centre in Montreal on Friday. The Florida Panthers did not have a first-round pick yesterday in the annual NHL Draft.
     The Panthers selected defenseman Marek Alscher of the Portland Winterhawks in the third round with the 93rd overall pick. He had seven goals and nine assists in 61 games during the 2021-22 season. 
     The Cats choose defenseman Ludvig Jansson in the fourth round and forward Sandis Vilmanis in the fifth round. Florida made two selections in the sixth round with forward Josh Davies and goalie Tyler Muszelik. They took forward Liam Arnsby and forward Jack Devine in the seventh round. 

Bob Boughner Hired By Red Wings

     The Detroit Red Wings have hired Bob Boughner as an associate coach. He was the head coach of the San Jose Sharks until July 1. It is a return to that region for Boughner, who is a co-owner and once was a head coach of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League. 
     Boughner was the head coach of the Florida Panthers for two seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He had an 80-62-22 record with the team. He spent the past three seasons as the head coach of the San Jose Sharks with a record of 67-85-23. 

Panthers Re-Sign Eetu Luostarinen

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed forward Eetu Luostarinen. It is a two-year contract between him and the club worth $3 million. 
     Luostarinen participated in 78 games and compiled nine goals along with 17 assists with the Cats last season. He contributed to the Panthers winning the Presidents' Trophy for the most regular season points in the National Hockey League and the Atlantic Division title. 

Panthers Keep Lucas Carlsson

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed defenseman Lucas Carlsson. It is a one-year, two-way deal between him and the team. 
     Carlsson was with the Panthers for 40 games last season. He compiled three goals and six assists with them and helped Florida have the best record in the National Hockey League.

Mets Pound Marlins

     The New York Mets dominated the Miami Marlins 10-0 at Citi Field on Thursday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both teams. The Marlins lost their second straight game following a six-game winning streak. 
     Miami(39-42) was held to just two hits by the Mets pitching staff. Miguel Rojas had a double in the third while Jesus Aguilar got a base hit in the seventh inning. 
     New York(52-31) made it 6-0 on a three-run homer by James McCann to left-center field in the bottom of the fourth. J.D. Davis smashed a grand-slam homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch with Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha and Jeff McNeil aboard.

Ohtani And Angels Stop Marlins

     The Los Angeles Angels handled the Miami Marlins 5-2 at loanDepot park on Wednesday night. The loss snapped the Marlins six-game winning streak. 
     2021 American League Most Valuable Player and Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani pitched seven innings, struck out 10 batters and surrendered one run on two hits. Los Angeles was able to halt a four-game losing streak. 
     Miami(39-41) scooted out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Garrett Cooper hit a sacrifice fly into left field to score Jon Berti. 
     Los Angeles(38-45) got the lead 3-1 in the top of the fifth. Mike Trout was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Max Stassi scored. Ohtani followed with a base hit through the left side for former Marlin players Monte Harrison and Jonathan Villar to cross the plate.
     The Angels added two more runs in the seventh inning for a 5-1 lead. Taylor Ward drove in Villar on a single into left field. Ohtani would later score on a base hit by Luis Rengifo to center field. 
     The Marlins picked up one run in the bottom of the ninth. Jesus Sanchez grounded out to first and Jesus Aguilar reached home. 

Caleb Martin Stays With Miami Heat

     Miami Heat forward Caleb Martin will be staying with the Miami Heat. He is expected to sign a three-year contract with the team worth around $20.5 million. 
     Martin was with the Charlotte Hornets for two seasons before joining the Miami Heat in 2021-22. He compiled 9.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in 60 contests last season. Martin helped the Heat get the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Florida Panthers 2022-23 Schedule Released

     The National Hockey League has released the schedule for the 2022-23 regular season. All 32 NHL teams will play 82-game schedules for the second straight season. The NHL will have normal dates and time length in the regular season for the first time since the 2018-19 season. 
     The Florida Panthers will open the 2022-23 campaign on October 13 against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. They will have their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers on October 19. The 2021-22 Presidents' Trophy banner and Atlantic Division banner are expected to be raised to the rafters of FLA Live Arena prior to that contest. 
     The Panthers, who look to defend their Atlantic Division crown, will play two games at home and two games away against most of their Atlantic Division foes. The exception is the Detroit Red Wings who will visit Sunrise once on December 8 while the Cats visit the Ottawa Senators once on March 27. 
     Florida takes on all eight Metropolitan Division clubs three times each. The Panthers host division champion Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils twice and visit once. The Cats 2022 first-round opponent Washington Capitals, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets come to South Florida once and the Panthers travel to them twice. 
     The Cats will host and visit all 16 Western Conference teams once for the upcoming season. The Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche will come to Sunrise on February 11. 
     The 2023 National Hockey League All-Star Game will be held at FLA Live Arena on February 4. The Panthers regular season finale is at home against the Carolina Hurricanes on April 13. 

Florida Panthers New ECHL Affiliate

     The Florida Panthers have named the Florida Everblades as their new ECHL affiliate. That team is based in Estero in Southwest Florida. One big advantage is the close proximity to the team's hockey operations department in Sunrise. 
     The Cats had previously used the Florida Everblades as their ECHL affiliate in 2001-02, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09 and 2009-10. The Florida Panthers did use the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in South Carolina as their ECHL affiliate last season. 
     The Florida Everblades won the Kelly Cup in the ECHL last season. It was their second league championship in franchise history. The Everblades were the Nashville Predators ECHL affiliate in recent years.

Ken Charles Exiting KNX

     Former Miami radio program director Ken Charles will be exiting his positions as brand manager at KNX-FM, program director at KNX-AM and Audacy news format vice president. His final day will be on July 22.  
     Charles was the program director of 940 WINZ-AM and News Radio 610 WIOD-AM from early 2007 until December 2012. During his tenure, he flipped WINZ from a liberal talk format to a sports talk format in April 2009. Miami Heat radio broadcasts were moved from WIOD to WINZ after the 2007-08 season. Clear Channel Miami acquired the radio rights to the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2010 NFL season. 
     He was involved in adding on-air talent. Tommy Tighe was named Miami Heat Radio Network studio host in January 2010 when Jeremy Marks-Peltz exited for ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM in West Palm Beach. Jeff DeForrest left 640 Sports WMEN-AM and joined WINZ-AM as a morning host in July 2010. Charles launched The Finsiders Show in afternoon drive with Jesse Agler as host in August 2010. Larry Milian, a.k.a. The Amigo, moved from WMEN to become a mid-afternoon co-host with Phil Dominic at 940 WINZ-AM in January 2012. 
     Charles stuck with the sports talk format and it eventually paid off in the final complete period he directed that radio station. WINZ finished in second place among Miami sports radio stations ahead of Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in October 2012. 
     Prior to his arrival at Clear Channel Miami, he was a regional vice president of Clear Channel Houston and program director of 790 ESPN Radio KBME-AM. News Radio 740 KTRH-AM and Talk Radio 950 KPRC-AM. He left Miami in 2012 and joined Clear Channel Sacramento as vice president of programming. Charles moved to Los Angeles and became the KNX-AM program director in 2015. 

Marlins Lay Down Angels

     The Miami Marlins edged the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. It was the first of a two-game set between both teams. Miami starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched eight innings against Los Angeles(37-45) and allowed no runs on two hits. 
     Marlins team nemesis Noah Syndergaard was the Angels starting pitcher. He had a 7-1 record and a 1.68 earned run average in 12 career starts against Miami heading into this contest. 
     Miami(39-40) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Garrett Cooper lifted a solo home run barely over the center-field fence on a 3-2 pitch for his sixth homer this year. 
     It became 2-0 for the Fish in the fifth inning. Bryan De La Cruz smacked a solo homer to left field on a 0-1 count for his sixth home run of the season. 
     The Angels loaded the bases in the top of the ninth. Taylor Ward knocked in Michael Stefanic on a sacrifice fly to center field and cut it to 2-1. 

Panthers Ink Aleksi Heponiemi

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed center Aleksi Heponiemi to a two-way, one-year contract with the team. It is to be around $750,000 on the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level. 
     Heponiemi played six games for Florida during the 2021-22 campaign and had one assist. He spent 56 contests with the Panthers AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers last season and compiled 39 points. 

Hank Goldberg Passes Away

     Legendary Miami sportscaster Hank Goldberg passed away Monday on his 82nd birthday. He had long stints in local radio and local television while in South Florida.  
     Goldberg, known as The Hammer and Hammerin' Hank, was involved in the Miami Dolphins public relations department in the earlier years of that franchise. He worked at Beber Silverstein and Partners prior to and during his broadcasting career. His father Hy Goldberg was a sportswriter who covered the New York Yankees and New York Mets for the Newark Evening News. 
     He entered broadcasting with News Radio 610 WIOD-AM. He hosted the evening sports shows Sportsline and Sports Talk 610 from the 1978 until 1992. He also was the radio game analyst of Miami Dolphins games from 1978 to September 1992.
     Goldberg joined Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in October 1992 as an afternoon host. He was shifted to morning host in August 2004 to challenge Joe Rose, who began his reign as morning host at the newly launched Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Goldberg returned to the afternoon shift in early 2005 and stayed there until his contract was not renewed in December 2009. 
     In television, Goldberg became a part of sports department at WTVJ-TV Channel 4 as a sports anchor and a sports panelist on their Sunday late night sports show Sports Final from 1983 to 1992. He joined ESPN in 1993 as the Miami Dolphins correspondent. Goldberg also was a National Football League handicapper on their Sunday morning shows and thoroughbred horse racing handicapper/studio analyst for major events in that sport. He stayed at ESPN until 2014. 
     He joined 640 Sports WMEN-AM and had a Saturday midday show during the football season from September 2011 to December 2014 with first Andy Slater and later Tom Jicha. Goldberg started a Saturday show outside of football season in March 2015 and became the afternoon host on that radio station from May 2015 until August 2015. He was an NFL football studio analyst and sports handicapper for CBSSports.com. and CBS Sports HQ in the 2010s and early 2020s.

Inter Miami CF Draws With FC Dallas

     Inter Miami CF tied FC Dallas 1-1 at Toyota Stadium on Monday night. It was the second Major League Soccer meeting ever between both teams. They faced each at the same venue on October 28. 2020. 
     FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead during the 28th minute on a goal by Alan Velasco. Leonardo Campana evened it up 1-1 for Inter Miami CF in the 89th minute of play. 

Marlins Sweep Nationals

     The Miami Marlins held off the Washington Nationals 3-2 in 10 innings at Nationals Park on Monday. The Marlins swept the four-game wraparound weekend series versus the Nationals.
     Miami(38-40) finished with a 5-2 record during their seven-game road trip. Washington(29-53) has lost five straight games. The Fish will play their next two games at home against Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels. 
      It was the first four-game sweep in franchise history for the Marlins over the Nationals. Miami is 12-1 when they faced Washington this year and 26-39 versus the rest of baseball in 2022. 
     The Marlins scored two runs in the top of the 10th to go up 3-1. Bryan De La Cruz walloped a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch with Miguel Rojas aboard. The Nats picked up one run in the bottom of the frame and trailed 3-2. Maikel Franco crossed home plate on a double play.

Goran Dragic Going To Chicago Bulls

     Former Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic will soon be joining the Chicago Bulls. It is expected to be a one-year contract between him and the club. 
     Dragic was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Kyle Lowry prior to the 2021-22 season. He participated in five games for Toronto and averaged eight points per games. Dragic then was dealt to the San Antonio Spurs on February 10 and was released four days later. He was signed by the Brooklyn Nets on February 22, played in 16 games and averaged 7.3 points per game. 
     He was with the Miami Heat for seven seasons from 2014-15 until 2020-21. Dragic helped the Heat win the 2020 Eastern Conference title and advanced to the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. 

Marlins Turn Switch On Nationals

     The Miami Marlins outlasted the Washington Nationals 7-4 at Nationals Park in 10 innings on Sunday. Both teams exchanged the lead several times in the last three innings. The Marlins are 11-1 in their last 12 games against the Nationals.
     Washington(29-52) got their first lead of the contest 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth Josh Bell pounded a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 12th homer of the season. 
     Miami(37-40) was down to their final strike when they reclaimed the lead 4-3. Jesus Sanchez powered a two-run homer on a 2-2 count with new teammate Billy Hamilton on base. It was the 11th home run for Sanchez this year. 
     The Nationals evened it up 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth. Victor Robles singled to left-center field for Alcides Escobar to score. 
     The Marlins added three runs and made it 7-4 in the 10th inning. Brian Anderson singled up the middle and Bryan De La Cruz scored. Jon Berti followed with a base hit into right-center field and Jacob Stallings reached home. Joey Wendle came out next and drove in Anderson with a single through the right side. 

Nemanja Bjelica Gone To Europe

     Former Miami Heat forward Nemanja Bjelica has signed with Fenerbahce in France. He was with that team prior to his arrival in the National Basketball Association in 2015-16.
     Bjelica was acquired by the Miami Heat from the Sacramento Kings on March 25, 2021. He played in just 11 games with the Heat and averaged five points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Bjelica joined the Golden State Warriors and won an NBA championship with them in 2021-22.

Marlins Push By Nationals

     The Miami Marlins breezed by the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Saturday at Nationals Park. It was the second contest of a four-game wraparound weekend series.  
     Miami(36-40) has knocked off Washington(29-51) in 10 of their last 11 meetings. Both clubs will face each other tomorrow and July 4 to complete the Marlins seven-game road trip. The Marlins are in a stretch in which they are playing 11 away games out of 13 games overall. 

Jonathan Villar Signs With Angels

     Former Miami Marlins second baseman Jonathan Villar has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels. It is a one-year deal through the rest of the 2022 season. He played 46 contests for the Chicago Cubs earlier this year and was released by them on June 28. 
     Villar played 30 games with the Marlins in 2020 and had a .259 batting average with two home runs and nine runs batted in. He was traded by the Fish to the Toronto Blue Jays before the end of the regular season. The Marlins reached the postseason later that year for the first time since 2003.

Marlins Outduel Nationals

     The Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 6-3 at Nationals Park on Friday night. The Marlins continued their seven-game road swing. 
     Miami(35-40) has defeated Washington(29-50) in nine of their last 10 meetings. The Marlins scored three runs in the top of the third and never looked back. 

Jason Carr Returns To West Palm Beach

     Radio executive Jason Carr has made his return to West Palm Beach. He was named the senior vice president of programming for iHeartMedia radio stations in West Palm Beach and Fort Pierce. 
     Carr was also named the program director of Real Radio 92.1 WZZR-FM and 98.7 The Gater WKGR-FM. Real Radio 92.1 does carry sports programming with National Football League games and weekend sports shows. Carr was an executive producer at WZZR-FM in his first tenure in West Palm Beach. 
     After leaving South Florida, he was the executive producer and director of network operations of the syndicated Lex and Terry Radio Network. He joined WHLG-FM in Port St. Lucie as station manager and then became the operations manager at WTSM-FM in Tallahassee and WSBH-FM in Melbourne. 
     Carr landed in Cleveland and was the assistant program director at WHLK-FM. He was promoted to program director at that radio station and at WMMS-FM. He left both of those positions this week. 

Florida Panthers 2022-23 Preseason Schedule

     The Florida Panthers have released their 2022-23 preseason schedule. It will entail six games prior to the regular season. 
    The Panthers will open up with their annual doubleheader with the Predators in Nashville on September 26. The Cats will then play consecutive contests against the Carolina Hurricanes. They host the Canes on September 29 and visit Raleigh on October 1. 
     Florida will have a home-and-home series with the defending Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning. They play the Bolts in Sunrise on October 6 and travel to Tampa on October 8. 

Bob Boughner Fired By San Jose Sharks

     The San Jose Sharks have let go head coach Bob Boughner after three seasons. Boughner was an assistant coach with the Sharks when he replaced Peter DeBoer as head coach of that team in December 2019. 
     Boughner got his first chance to be a head coach in the NHL with the Florida Panthers. He spent two seasons with the team in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and had an 80-62-22 record. 

Jazz Chisholm Jr. All-Star Game Finalist

     Miami Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a finalist for the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. It will be held on July 19 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. 
     He will be challenged Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves for the starting spot at second base for the National League team. The starting lineup will be voted upon and decided in a week. 
     Chisholm is in his third season with the Marlins. He helped the Marlins reach the postseason, during his rookie year in 2020, for the first time since they won the 2003 World Series. Chisholm has 14 home runs, 45 runs batted in and a .845 OPS in 60 games this season.
