Ken Charles Exiting KNX

Former Miami radio program director Ken Charles will be exiting his positions as brand manager at KNX-FM, program director at KNX-AM and Audacy news format vice president. His final day will be on July 22.
Charles was the program director of 940 WINZ-AM and News Radio 610 WIOD-AM from early 2007 until December 2012. During his tenure, he flipped WINZ from a liberal talk format to a sports talk format in April 2009. Miami Heat radio broadcasts were moved from WIOD to WINZ after the 2007-08 season. Clear Channel Miami acquired the radio rights to the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2010 NFL season.
He was involved in adding on-air talent. Tommy Tighe was named Miami Heat Radio Network studio host in January 2010 when Jeremy Marks-Peltz exited for ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM in West Palm Beach. Jeff DeForrest left 640 Sports WMEN-AM and joined WINZ-AM as a morning host in July 2010. Charles launched The Finsiders Show in afternoon drive with Jesse Agler as host in August 2010. Larry Milian, a.k.a. The Amigo, moved from WMEN to become a mid-afternoon co-host with Phil Dominic at 940 WINZ-AM in January 2012.
Charles stuck with the sports talk format and it eventually paid off in the final complete period he directed that radio station. WINZ finished in second place among Miami sports radio stations ahead of Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in October 2012.
Prior to his arrival at Clear Channel Miami, he was a regional vice president of Clear Channel Houston and program director of 790 ESPN Radio KBME-AM. News Radio 740 KTRH-AM and Talk Radio 950 KPRC-AM. He left Miami in 2012 and joined Clear Channel Sacramento as vice president of programming. Charles moved to Los Angeles and became the KNX-AM program director in 2015.
