Pirates Sail by Marlins

The Pittsburgh Pirates got a 5-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins, who have lost three of their last five contests, opened up a seven-game homestand prior to the MLB All-Star Game.
Pittsburgh(37-50) bolted out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Diego Castillo drove in Kevin Newman and Ke'Bryan Hayes with a base hit into center field.
The Pirates made it a three-run margin in the top of the second. Newman doubled to center field and former Marlins player Jake Marisnick scored.
Miami(41-44) cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Avisail Garcia singled through the left side of the field and Garrett Cooper crossed the plate.
The Bucs added two more runs in the ninth inning for a 5-1 lead. Josh VanMeter led off the frame with a double into center field. Marisnick followed with a two-run homer to left field on a 0-2 pitch for his first home run in a Pirates uniform.
