Hank Goldberg Passes Away

Legendary Miami sportscaster Hank Goldberg passed away Monday on his 82nd birthday. He had long stints in local radio and local television while in South Florida.
Goldberg, known as The Hammer and Hammerin' Hank, was involved in the Miami Dolphins public relations department in the earlier years of that franchise. He worked at Beber Silverstein and Partners prior to and during his broadcasting career. His father Hy Goldberg was a sportswriter who covered the New York Yankees and New York Mets for the Newark Evening News.
He entered broadcasting with News Radio 610 WIOD-AM. He hosted the evening sports shows Sportsline and Sports Talk 610 from the 1978 until 1992. He also was the radio game analyst of Miami Dolphins games from 1978 to September 1992.
Goldberg joined Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in October 1992 as an afternoon host. He was shifted to morning host in August 2004 to challenge Joe Rose, who began his reign as morning host at the newly launched Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Goldberg returned to the afternoon shift in early 2005 and stayed there until his contract was not renewed in December 2009.
In television, Goldberg became a part of sports department at WTVJ-TV Channel 4 as a sports anchor and a sports panelist on their Sunday late night sports show Sports Final from 1983 to 1992. He joined ESPN in 1993 as the Miami Dolphins correspondent. Goldberg also was a National Football League handicapper on their Sunday morning shows and thoroughbred horse racing handicapper/studio analyst for major events in that sport. He stayed at ESPN until 2014.
He joined 640 Sports WMEN-AM and had a Saturday midday show during the football season from September 2011 to December 2014 with first Andy Slater and later Tom Jicha. Goldberg started a Saturday show outside of football season in March 2015 and became the afternoon host on that radio station from May 2015 until August 2015. He was an NFL football studio analyst and sports handicapper for CBSSports.com. and CBS Sports HQ in the 2010s and early 2020s.
