Blanche Ely Opens With Win
The high school football regular season in South Florida opened up this past weekend. Blanche Ely came back from a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat Stranahan 31-26 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The Tigers were dazed in the first half as the Dragons controlled the first half of play. Stranahan(0-1) safety Don Gaddy returned a 27-yard inception with 2:45 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Darren Allen had two great kickoff returns, including one for a touchdown, negated because of penalties. Dragons quarterback Otis Brown had a seven-yard touchdown run in the middle of the second quarter to increase the lead to 14-0. Two minutes later, John Bellfour kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Tigers. On the first play of the Stranahan's next drive, Wilson ran 80-yards through the right side to make it 20-3. Ely came out of the locker room with new purpose to begin the second half as they scored on their first four possessions. The Tigers got third quarter scores on a five-yard run by running back Robert Scott and a one-yard run by quarterback Taquan Fields. Ely took their first lead of the game on the first play of the fourth quarter as Allen ran in from one yard out for a 24-20 lead. Scott followed with a 35-yard run up the middle five minutes later. Blanche Ely(1-0) only made one second half comeback in 2010 as they defeated Dillard in the Soul Bowl.
