Howden Hurt In Rookie Game
The Florida Panthers continued rookie camp this week in Coral Springs as they lost to the Nashville Predators 3-1. Panthers top prospect left wing Quinton Howden was injured late in the second period with an elbow to the head by Predators defensemen Scott Valentine in the neutral zone. He didn't return for the rest of the game. Howden was drafted by Florida in the first round and 25th overall in 2010 NHL draft. The Panthers got the initial lead just 3:41 into the game as left wing Jonathan Huberdeau converted on a rebound shot following a blast from the right point by defensemen Erik Gudbranson. Nashville picked up two goals in the second period. Right wing Josh Shalla evened the game at 3:20 and center Craig Smith scored from the crease on a four-on-three power play at 9:23. Smith put in his second goal of the game just one minute into the third period. Florida was 0-3 while Nashville was 1-4 on the power play. Veterans on the Panthers roster report to preseason camp on Friday.
