Brewers Clinch Division Title Over Marlins
Outfielder Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer to straight center field in the eighth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Florida Marlins 4-1 Friday at Miller Park. 25 minutes after the game ended, the Brewers clinched the National League Central Division as the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals. It was the first division title for the Brewers in 29 years. Milwaukee had won the American League East back in 1982. The Marlins fell behind in the second inning as Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder homered to right center for his 35th this season. Florida tied the game in the fourth inning when Bryan Petersen knocked a shallow single into center field to score Gaby Sanchez. Marlins starter Chris Volstad got a no-decision after giving up one run on six hits in seven innings. Clay Hensley(6-7) took the loss following surrendering Braun's home run.
