Marlins Finish Road Trip To End August

The Florida Marlins finished August in New York with a milestone performance by starting pitcher Javier Vasquez. He was able to pick up his 2,500 strikeout in a 6-0 shutout win over the Mets. Vazquez allowed only three singles in seven innings of work for his first win since late July. The Marlins got a five-run rally in the seventh inning thanks to a two-run single by Logan Morrison and a RBI single by Mike Cameron. Mike Stanton capped the victory on his 31st home run with an opposite field second-deck shot in the ninth inning. It was the first time that a right-handed batter was able to do that since Citi Field opened in 2009. The Marlins dropped the final two games in Flushing 3-2 and 7-5 before heading back to Florida for a six-game homestand against the Phiadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.
