The undefeated Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs will get a chance to break away from the pack of teams in District 15-5A as they host the Dillard Panthers at The Furnace on Friday night. Dillard moved into the new district last season after playing in a higher classification with longtime Soul Bowl rival Blanche Ely and Boyd Anderson.
Cardinal Gibbons(1-0, 6-0) has been one of the big surprises in Broward County this season. Chiefs head coach Mike Morrill has kept the same two quarterback system that he has used for the last several seasons. It will consist of Peyton Bender, whose older brother Chase onced played in the same setup, and Ryan Giaratano. Marcus Dixon leads a power running game and can explode on a short or long run. The Chiefs went on the road last week, scored the first 31 points of the game and beat the Coral Springs Colts 31-12.
Dillard(1-0, 4-3) comes off a disappointing 31-19 home loss to Glades Central last week. It was a little bit of a letdown facing a non-district squad from out of the county. The Panthers have Dre'shawn Nelson, an elusive running back that gave the visitors from Belle Glade problems. Dennis Turner and LaDarion McBride complete a wide receiver core that can strike at any time.
