The Miami Heat begins their 25th season in the National Basketball Association on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics at American Airlines Arena. The franchise has won two NBA titles since they joined the league in 1988.
It will be special night for the organization as they will raise their second NBA Championship banner and team personnel with receive their championship rings prior to the game. Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem are the only two players to be part of both Heat titles in 2006 and 2012. LeBron James and Chris Bosh, both acquired as free agents in 2010, picked up their first NBA title in June.
The team has been owned by the Arison family throughout the 25-year reign. Ted Arison brought the NBA to Miami and the South Florida region back in 1988 as the original owner. The team was passed on to his son Mickey Arison, who is also the managing general partner. His grandson Nick Arison is currently the chief executive officer for the Heat.
The person that molded both Heat championship teams is Pat Riley. He is currently the President and the head of basketball operations of the organization. He did have the role of head coach during their first championship run in 2006.
The last time the Heat raised a championship banner to begin the season was a forgettable night. They were blown out at American Airlines Arena on opening night in 2006 by the Chicago Bulls 108-66.
