The Miami Heat pounded through with a major rally of 33-5 during the second half as they blew out the San Antonio Spurs 103-84 in Game 2 on Sunday night at American Airlines Arena. The best-of-seven series is now tied at one game apiece with the next three games to be played in San Antonio. The Heat avoided losing two straight games for the first time since January 8 and 10.
Mario Chalmers had a team-high 19 points for the Heat in 35 minutes of play. LeBron James scored 17 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocked shots and three steals in 41 minutes while Chris Bosh compiled a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. Dwyane Wade added 10 points with six assists in 30 minutes and Ray Allen got 13 points.
Two players for the Spurs fell short of a double-double as Tim Duncan knocked down nine points with 11 rebounds in 30 minutes Kawhi Leonard had nine points with 14 rebounds in 33 minutes. Danny Green scored a team-high 17 points in 30 minutes while Tony Parker contributed 13 points with five assists and five turnovers in 33 minutes. Manu Ginobili was held to five points in 18 minutes.
The Spurs began the game 11-6 until the Heat came back as both teams were tied 22-22 after one quarter. Neither team led by more than five points during the second quarter as Miami was ahead 50-45 at halftime.
After giving up an eight-point lead early in the third quarter, the Heat went on a 14-3 spurt at the end of the period to go up by double digits 75-65. Miami continued to roll as they came through with a 19-2 rally at the start of the fourth quarter and led 94-67 with 7:13 remaining. It was a combined 33-5 run against San Antonio that carried between the periods. Both teams pulled their starters with five minutes left in the game.
