The Miami Marlins swept their first series this season with three straight wins over the New York Mets this weekend at Marlins Park. The Marlins entered the three-game set on a nine-game losing streak while the Mets had just completed a four-game season series sweep over the New York Yankees for the first time in their crosstown rivalry.
The Marlins won the first game on Friday 5-1 as they scored four runs in the seventh inning to break it open. Fish starting pitcher Jacob Turner got his first win of season and Marcell Ozuna extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
Jose Fernandez pitched seven scoreless innings on Saturday as Miami routed New York 8-1. Ozuna had his hit streak snapped as he finished with the second best rookie streak in franchise history behind Edgar Renteria.
Miami(16-41) came out ahead Sunday with an 11-6 victory over New York(22-32) on Sunday. It was a back-and-forth game as the Marlins put up three runs in the first inning. The Mets took the lead in the fifth inning and were up 6-4. The Fish retook the lead during the sixth inning with three runs.
