Marlins Lose In 11 Innings

The Miami Marlins fell in 11 innings to the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Saturday at AT&T Park. The Fish had their nine-game winning streak in San Francisco snapped by the defending world champions. The last time the Giants won at home against the Marlins was on July 28, 2010.
Ed Lucas picked up his first major league home run for Miami(24-50) during the first inning. He smacked a one-out solo home run to left field off Barry Zito on a 2-2 pitch. It would prove to be the only run for the Marlins in the game.
San Francicso(38-36) evened it up in the fifth inning against Jacob Turner. Juan Perez led off with a double into left field. He advanced to third on a ground out to second by Nick Noonan. Perez was tagged out at home on a bunt by Zito. Gregor Blanco pounded a ground-rule double to deep right-center field as Zito scored. Marlins manager Mike Redmond was ejected for the first time as a major league manager as he argued about the runner who was rewarded home plate on the play.
The Giants got the victory with the winning run in the 11th inning. Blanco reached base on an infield single against Mike Dunn, who was then relieved by Ryan Webb. Marco Scutaro sacrificed Blanco to second on a bunt. Blanco went to third on an infield base hit to the right side by Buster Posey. After Hunter Pence was intentionally walked to load the bases, pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez sliced a single into shallow left for Blanco to score.
Turner went seven innings for the Marlins and allowed one run on six hits. Zito had the same exact pitching line for the Giants as he gave up one run on six hits in the seven innings he hurled.
