Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad has been named a 2015 finalist for the Calder Trophy. Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames and Mark Stone of the Ottawa Senators were also named finalist for the award given to the best rookie in the National Hockey League. The winner will be announced in Las Vegas on June 24. Jonathan Huberdeau won the trophy in his first season with the Panthers in 2012-13.
Ekblad was the first overall pick by the Florida Panthers at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia. He played 81 games for the Cats this season and set several franchise records with the club. They included 12 goals, 27 assists and 39 points for a Panthers rookie defenseman.
