It was a good start for the Miami Marlins on Friday night, but they were overtaken by the New York Mets 4-1 at Citi Field. The Mets won their sixth straight game and lead the National League East division while the Fish trail them in the standings by five games.
Giancarlo Stanton struck again in the first inning for Miami(3-8) in his second consecutive game with a homer. He hit his second home run of the season off Bartolo Colon on a 0-2 pitch to right-center field. Colon gave up one run on six hits in seven innings and improved his record to 3-0 this year.
In the fifth inning, New York(8-3) tied the game at 1-1 when Eric Campbell scored on a sacrifice fly by Colon to center field against David Phelps.
The Mets got two runs during the bottom of the sixth and took the lead. Juan Lagares led off with a single to left-center field and advanced to third on a base hit to center by Lucas Duda. They pulled ahead 2-1 when Lagares scored on a Michael Cuddyer infield hit. Following a ground out by Daniel Murphy, Sam Dyson relieved for Brad Hand. Campbell knocked in Duda on a sacrifice fly into right field.
The Marlins surrendered another run in the eighth inning as Bryan Morris came in to pitch. Cuddyer doubled to right field with one out then crossed the plate on a double by Murphy into right.
