Rain Delay And Braves Stop Marlins

It was the home opener for the Miami Marlins as they were edged 2-1 by the Atlanta Braves on Monday. It was the fourth home opener for the Fish at Marlins Park, but this game will be long remembered for a second-inning rain delay in a stadium that has a sliding roof to prevent weather stoppages.
Atlanta(1-0) jumped quickly out to a 1-0 lead against Henderson Alvarez in the first inning. Jace Peterson singled into right-center field with one out and went to second on a balk. Nick Markakis, who made his first plate appearance with his new team after signing as a free agent during the off-season, knocked in Peterson with a base hit to center.
In the third inning, Miami(0-1) tied the game on a two-out rally. Alvarez doubled to deep left field then scored on RBI-single to center by Dee Gordon against Julio Teheran. It was the first base hit by Gordon as a Marlin. He was acquired by the Fish in a trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers several months ago.
The Bravos got the game-winning run in the sixth inning. Eric Young Jr. led off with a double to center and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Peterson. Markakis grounded out to second for Young Jr. to score.
