The Florida Panthers finished a six-game road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night at Amalie Arena. The Cats are now 0-2-1 in their last three games following a 12-game winning streak. The Bolts increased their winning streak to five games.
In the second period, Tampa Bay pulled ahead 1-0 at 4:21. Nikita Kucherov stopped at the right circle and scored on a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Roberto Luongo.
Andrej Sustr increased the Lightning lead to 2-0. Jason Garrison fired a shot from the top of the zone which hit the back glass. It rebounded to the side of Panthers cage where Sustr put in a backhand shot at 18:30.
Florida closed the gap to one goal at 8:06 of the third period. Jussi Jokinen had the puck in the right corner and passed to the slot area. Nick Bjugstad took an initial shot which was saved by Ben Bishop, but Bjugstad stuffed in the rebound from close range.
Kucherov clinched the victory on an empty-net goal with 1:24 remaining in the frame. It was the his second goal of the contest and 18th of the season.
