Panthers Escape Edmonton

The Florida Panthers began the second half of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night at Rexall Place. The Cats extended their winning streak to 12 games as they played the third game of a six-game road trip. It was the final appearance for the club in that arena as the Oilers will play in another arena across town next season.
It took under four minutes of the opening period for the Panthers to get ahead 1-0. Jaromir Jagr stole the puck from Darnell Nurse at the left point and went on a breakaway. He slipped the puck between the pads of Cam Talbot and into the Edmonton cage. Jagr is now four goals behind Brett Hull for fourth place all-time in NHL goals.
The Cats extended the lead to two goals just five minutes later. Brian Campbell backhanded the puck around the left corner to Aleksander Barkov on the end wall. He centered it to Jonathan Huberdeau in the low slot and he lifted in a shot.
Edmonton closed the gap to one goal with seven minutes left. Matt Kendricks kicked the puck on the end wall to Lauri Korpikoski at the side of the net. He found Mark Letestu in the slot and he put a snap shot by Al Montoya.
