The Deerfield Beach Bucks face the Columbus Explorers at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami for the South Florida Tri-County Class 8A Championship in the gold bracket on Saturday night. Both schools met each other last season in the FHSAA Class 8A state semifinal game and Columbus prevailed 28-21.
Deerfield Beach(4-0) is the third seed in the gold bracket. They have outscored their opponents 153-35 this season. The Bucks blanked Jupiter 41-0 in the first round and got by Western 34-27 in the second round. Running back Jaziun Patterson will get a ton of carries from the backfield. Wide receivers Jamarion McDougle, Deion Small, Fred Eaford and Michael Jordan can make catches down the field.
Columbus(7-0) is the defending FHSAA Class 8A state champions and the top seed in the gold bracket. The Explorers have outscored their opponents 180-25 and have not given up more than 12 points in any contest this year. They won by forfeit over Stoneman Douglas in the first round and Monarch in the second round. Columbus has not played in any game since November 20. Leaders on the team are offensive lineman Ryan Rodriguez and defensive back Branden Coleman.
