The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will host the Venice Indians at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night in a Class 7A regional final. Both teams will be facing each other for the fifth consecutive year in the FHSAA Playoffs.
They have met each other in the last four state semifinals. The Raiders defeated the Indians 42-0 on the same field last year.
Venice(10-3) will visiting South Florida for the second straight week. The Indians are 4-1 in their last five road playoff contests. They have outscored their opponents 539-201 this year. Venice won by forfeit in a play-in game versus North Port, shut out Riverdale 47-0 in a regional quarterfinal and outdueled Homestead 50-13 in a regional semifinal. Running back Steffan Johnson, Dylan Turner, Carson Smith and Damarion Escort will get their rushing attempts. Wide receivers Weston Wolff, Jashawn Platt, Myles Weston and Keyon Sears look to get open for pass receptions from quarterback Colin Blazek.
St. Thomas Aquinas(5-1) is the defending FHSAA Class 7A state champions. STA has outscored their opponents 194-74 this season. The Raiders started their first two playoff games on the road for the first time in over 20 years. They defeated Lehigh 50-14 in the regional quarterfinal and blanked Manatee 45-0 in the regional semifinal. Quarterback Zion Turner is a dual threat who can pass and run out from the pocket at anytime. Running backs Anthony Hankerson and Corey Reddick will split the rushing opportunities from the backfield. Wide receivers Bralon Brown and Quincy Skinner Jr. look to receive the ball from Turner on passing plays.
