The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders make the long trip to Valrico and face the Bloomingdale Bulls in a FHSAA Class 7A state semifinal. The winner will play in the state title game two weeks from now in Tallahassee.
St. Thomas Aquinas(6-1) is the defending Class 7A state champions and will play their third road game of the postseason. STA is looking for a state-record 12th FHSAA football state title. The Raiders routed Lehigh 50-13 in the regional quarterfinal, shut out Manatee 45-0 in the regional semifinal and defeated recent playoff rival Venice 29-8 in the regional final. They have outscored their opponents 223-82 this season. Quarterback Zion Turner will guide the team down the field with his running and passing. Running backs Anthony Hankerson and Corey Reddick will get their share of rushing attempts. Turner can complete passes to wide receivers Bralon Brown and Quincy Skinner Jr. down the field.
Bloomingdale(12-0) is undefeated and have outscored their opponents 409-164 this season. The Bulls got by Plant City 35-21 in a play-in game, knocked off Pinellas Park 25-10 in a regional quarterfinal, beat Armwood for the second time this year in a regional semifinal 24-14 and edged Tampa Bay Tech 36-33 in a regional final. Quarterback Tre Simmons can connect passes to wide receivers Agiye Hall, Dinero McClendon, Jac'son Boone, D.J. McQueen and Jayden Segarra. Look for running backs Brycnn Bennett, Unique Lewis and Desmond Daniels to get rushing opportunities.
