Marlins Clinch Playoff Spot
The Miami Marlins clinched a National League postseason spot for the first time in four seasons with a 7-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday at PNC Park. It is still unknown who they will face in the first round.
Inter MIami CF Draws NYCFC
It turned out to be a 1-1 tie between New York City FC and Inter Miami CF on Saturday night at DRV PNK Stadium. It was the first contest played by Inter Miami CF since they lost in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.
NYCFC(8-10-14) made it 1-0 during the 77th minute on a tally from Santiago Rodriguez. Inter Miami CF(9-15-6) evened it up in stoppage time on a goal by Tomas Aviles.
Miami Northwestern Nips Cardinal Newman
The Miami Northwestern Bulls barely got by the undefeated Cardinal Newman Crusaders 7-2 at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach on Friday night. Both schools have usually made the FHSAA postseason in the last eight years.
Cardinal Newman(4-1) was able to get a safety during the second quarter. Miami Northwestern(2-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak, pulled ahead on a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for a 7-2 lead.

Marlins Evade Pirates
The Miami Marlins picked up a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Friday night. The Marlins can make the postseason for the first time since the shortened 2020 season with one more win. The last time the Fish reached the National League Playoffs in a 162-game season was in 2003.
Pittsburgh(75-85) had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Ke'Bryan Hayes grounded out to third with the bases loaded and Endy Rodriguez crossed the plate.
The Bucs made it 3-0 during the fourth inning. Rodriguez singled into center field for Jared Triolo to score. Bryan Reynolds later reached base on a throwing error and Rodriguez scored.
Miami(83-76) compiled four runs in the top of the eighth and took a 4-3 lead. Josh Bell doubled off the right-field wall for Garrett Hampson and Nick Fortes to score. Jake Burger than drove in Jorge Soler with a base hit through the left side. Jazz Chisholm Jr. capped the frame as he hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Yuli Gurriel scored.
American Heritage Slams Cardinal Gibbons
The American Heritage Patriots powered by the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 48-7 at Heritage Field on Friday night in a Class 2M District 12 battle. It is considered one of the best rivalries in Broward County high school football for over the past decade.
It was a tight first quarter, in spite of the score, as Cardinal Gibbons(3-2, 0-1) was down 20-7. American Heritage(3-1, 1-0) extended it to 41-7 with three touchdowns during the second quarter.
The Patriots will visit the Western Wildcats next week. The Chiefs travel to Miami in a week and challenge the Belen Jesuit Wolverines.
Panthers Escape Hurricanes
The Florida Panthers held off the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 on Friday night at Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers will head for Nova Scotia and play in the Kraft Hockeyville game against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. The Hurricanes will not have a preseason contest in the next six days.
After a scoreless first period between both teams, Florida got out to a 1-0 lead at the 3:41 left in the second period. Josh Mahura centered the puck from the left wing. Mackie Samoskevich walked in through the slot, faked a forehand shot at the top of the crease and buried a backhand shot by Pyota Kochetkov for his third goal of the preseason. Gerry Mayhew was credited with a secondary assist on the play.
In the third period, the Panthers increased it to 2-0 at the 2:30 mark with a shorthanded goal. Santtu Kinnunen tipped a centering pass from Jack Drury. Former Canes player Steven Loretz carried the puck down the ice on a breakaway and put in a snap shot from the low slot for his first tally of the preseason.
Carolina made it 2-1 at 3:03 while on the power play. Returning Hurricanes player Anthony Esposito scored on assists from newcomer Michael Bunting and Drury. It was Esposito's second goal of the preseason.
The Canes pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 2:40 to go. Dmitri Orlov angled a pass from the top of the zone and Brandan Perlini scored on a wrist shot with 1:59 remaining and evened it up 2-2.
Florida quickly regained the lead 3-2 with 1:35 left when Mayhew scored as he snapped a shot from the low slot after a feed from Matt Kiersted in the low left circle. The Cats added an empty-net goal 23 seconds later as Lucas Carlsson flipped a shot from the Carolina blue line.

Marlins And Mets Suspended
The game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets was suspended in the ninth inning with the Marlins ahead 2-1 on Thursday night at Citi Field. The Marlins still have the third National League wild-card position.
New York(72-86) broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth. Rafael Ortega singled through the left side for Brett Baty to score.
Miami(82-76) answered back in the top of the ninth with two runs to take the lead 2-1. Jazz Chisholm Jr. off the top of the left-field wall and Bryan De La Cruz crossed the plate. Yuli Gurriel came up to pinch hit and singled into left field for Chisholm to reach home.
Monarch Burns Olympic Heights
The Monarch Knights slaughtered the Olympic Heights Lions 45-0 at Corey Lewis Stadium in Boca Raton on Thursday night. It was a clash between two teams in Class 4M District 12.
Monarch(5-1) had a 7-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Knights rocketed out to a 26-0 lead by halftime. Olympic Heights(2-4) fell behind 39-0 at the end of three quarters.

Inter Miami CF Falls In Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
The Houston Dynamo defeated Inter Miami CF 2-1 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night. Inter Miami failed to pull off a championship double after winning the Leagues Cup back in August. Lionel Messi did not dress for the contest.
It was the second time that the Dynamo has captured the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Houston had won the trophy in 2018.
Houston got out to a 1-0 lead during the 24th minute as Griffin Dorsey scored on a right-footed shot from 12 yards away. Amine Bassi was able to convert on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Inter Miami CF cut the deficit to 2-1 in stoppage time. Josef Martinez found the back of the net with a left-footed shot from nine yards away.
Marlins Slip By Mets
The Miami Marlins got a 4-2 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night. It was the second contest of a doubleheader.
The Marlins will finish the 2023 regular season with a winning record for the first time since 2009. The Fish are now tied with the Chicago Cubs for the final National League wild-card spot.
Miami(82-76) scored first in the opening frame. New York(72-86) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Both teams put up one run in the fourth inning for a 2-2 tie.
The Marlins moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the ninth. Yuli Gurriel grounded into a fielder's choice and Xavier Edwards reached home. Bryan De La Cruz then singled to left field and Jon Berti crossed the plate.
Mets Cruise By Marlins
The New York Mets pushed by the Miami Marlins 11-2 at Citi Field on Wednesday. It was the first game of a doubleheader. The Marlins are playing six games in five days to finish the regular season and are looking to make the postseason.
New York(72-85) ran out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Pete Alonso blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 3-2 pitch with Brandon Nimmo aboard. It was the 46th home run for Alonso this season.
The Mets increased it to 4-0 in the third inning. Francisco Lindor lifted a two-run home run to left-center field on a 2-2 count for his 28th homer of the year. Alonso scored in front of him on the play.
In the sixth inning, American Heritage High School grad Mark Vientos smacked a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his ninth home run of the 2023 campaign.
Miami(81-76) finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh and made it 6-2. Nick Fortes doubled into the right-center field gap to score Jazz Chisholm Jr. Jorge Soler later hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Fortes reached home.
New York added three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-2 advantage. Nimmo and Ronny Mauricio scored on a base hit up the middle by Lindor. Two batters later, Jeff McNeil got an infield single with the bases loaded for Alonso to score. Alonso crossed the plate for his fourth run of the game.
Damon Amendolara Leaves CBS Sports Radio
Former Miami sports talk radio host Damon Amendolara is leaving his morning post at CBS Sports Radio Network. He has been in that position since January 2020. He will become the morning co-host with Mike Babchik on October 2 at Mad Dog Radio on SiriusXM Radio.
Amendolara, a Syracuse University 2001 grad, joined CBS Sports Radio Network when it launched in January 2013. He started off as the overnight host and later was the evening host, late morning host, Sunday host and morning host.
He was the late night host and weekend host at 560 WQAM-AM in Miami from early 2008 to August 2009. Amendolara moved on to 98.5 The Hub WBZ-FM in Boston to work as an evening host from August 2009 until December 2012.
Marlins Game Postponed
The Miami Marlins game at the New York Mets was postponed on Tuesday night due to rain. It will be the first contest to be played on Wednesday afternoon as part of a doubleheader.
The Marlins still gained ground in the National League wild-card race on Tuesday. The Chicago Cubs blew a six-run lead against the Atlanta Braves. The Fish are just a 1/2 game behind the Cubbies for the final wild-card spot.

Dave Tomlinson Joins Sportsnet
Former Florida Panthers center Dave Tomlinson will be working as the Vancouver Canucks game analyst on Sportsnet this season. He recently worked the first two seasons of the Seattle Kraken as a radio game analyst.
It is a return for Tomlinson to the Vancouver media market. He once was a sports talk host on CKST-AM and a Vancouver Canucks radio game analyst.
Tomlinson did play with the Florida Panthers during the 1994-95 regular season. He ended up with no goals and no assists in five games. Tomlinson never reached the National Hockey League again after that campaign.

Panthers Sweep Doubleheader From Predators
The Florida Panthers raced by the Nashville Predators 5-2 on Monday night at Amerant Bank Arena, It was the second contest of the annual doubleheader between both teams. The traditional goes back to 2011. The Panthers won the first game earlier today 5-0.
Florida took a 1-0 lead at 8:25 of the first period. Josh Davies cycled the puck from the left wing. Justin Sourdif attempted a wraparound shot which was saved by Jusse Saros. Kevin Stenlund put in a wrist shot from the edge of the blue paint.
The Cats expanded it to 2-0 at the 9:52 mark of the frame. Nick Cousins pushed the puck from the left corner to Keith Tkachuk behind the cage. His centering pass was put in by Sam Bennett on a backhand shot from the top of the crease.
The Panthers made it 3-0 with 5:22 remaining in the first. Bennett angled a pass from the top of the zone to the right wing. Niko Mikkola released a shot that went off a defender and into the net. Dmitry Kulikov, who is beginning his second stint with the team, was credited with a secondary assist on the goal.
It became 4-0 for Florida with 1:31 to go in the period. Kulikov rushed through the right circle and scored on a backhand shot with assists from Bennett and Cousins.
Nashville cut it to 4-1 at 8:36 of the second period. Jake Livingstone carried the puck through the left circle and trickled a wrist shot by Sergei Bobrovsky. Yakov Trenin and Gustav Nyquist were credited with assists on the play.
Bobrovsky left the contest with 7:17 remaining in the second period. He stopped 15 of 16 shots in over 32 minutes against the Predators.
Panthers Speed By Predators
The Florida Panthers breezed by the Nashville Predators 5-0 on Monday afternoon at Amerant Bank Arena. It was the first game of the annual preseason doubleheader between both teams.
It was the 11th time both clubs faced each other in this unusual doubleheader circumstance. The event was not played in 2012 because of the NHL lockout and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Florida got up 1-0 at the 5:56 mark with a power-play goal. Mackie Samoskevich pushed the puck from the left-wing boards. Mike Reilly fired a slap shot from the left point and it was deflected in by William Lockwood in the slot area past Kevin Lankinen.
It became 2-0 for the Panthers as they scored with the man advantage again at 6:59. New Florida player Oliver Eckman-Larsson made an angle pass from the right wing and Eetu Luostarinen snapped a shot from the top of the crease.
In the second period, Panthers goalie Spencer Knight was removed from goal for Ludovic Waeber after compiling a shutout in 29 minutes of play. Florida waited until 48.7 seconds left in the frame to score on a 5-on-3 power play. Ekman-Larsson passed from the top of the zone ahead. Aleksander Barkov took a shot from the top right circle which was saved by Troy Grosenick. Luostarinen placed in a a wrist shot from the inner right circle for his second goal of the game,
Florida made it a four-goal margin at 2:53 of the third period. Ekman-Larsson connected a cross-ice pass from the right point. Gustav Forsling snapped a shot from the left point and it was redirected into the cage by Samoskevich from the slot area.
The Cats added another power-play tally with 2:52 remaining in the third for a 5-0 lead. Lockwood passed from the top right circle and Samoskevich scored on a snap shot from the low left circle for his second goal of the contest. Forsling picked up the secondary assist on the play.

Inter Miami CF Ties Orlando City SC
Inter Miami CF tied Orlando City SC 1-1 on Sunday night at Exploria Stadium. The team, who sat some of their starters, will next face the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night in Fort Lauderdale for the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
After a scoreless first half, Inter Miami CF(9-15-5) made it 1-0 in the 52nd minute. David Ruiz tapped in a rebound shot with his left foot from four yards away. Orlando City SC(14-7-9) evened it up 1-1 as Duncan McGuire scored in the 66th minute.
Marlins Turn Off Brewers
The Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Fish were able to take the three-game series and will not end the 2023 campaign with the losing record this year.
Miami(81-75) played their regular season home finale today. It might be their last home game in 2023. The Marlins could host a National League playoff series if they reach the second round of the postseason.
Milwaukee(88-68) was unable to the clinch the National League Central Division crown. The Brewers will look to win the division title at home against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
Dolphins Crush Broncos
The Miami Dolphins destroyed the Denver Broncos 70-20 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. It was the regular season home debut for the Fins.
Miami(3-0) rolled to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Dolphins kept their momentum during the second quarter and had a 35-13 halftime lead.
Denver(0-3) surrendered two more touchdowns in the third quarter and trailed 49-13. Miami was able to outscore the Broncos 21-7 in the final quarter for a 50-point margin.

Marlins Outride Brewers
The Miami Marlins held off the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 at loanDepot park on Saturday. The Marlins are still one game behind the Chicago Cubs for the final wild-card spot in the National League.
Miami(80-75) roared out with three runs in the bottom of the first on a Jake Burger home run and they had a four-run margin after four innings. Milwaukee(88-67) compiled four runs in the top of the sixth to tie it up 4-4. The Marlins got the go-ahead in the eighth inning when Garrett Hampson scored on a wild pitch.
Hurricanes Bomb Temple
The University of Miami Hurricanes blew out the Temple University Owls 41-7 at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday. It was a rare visit by the Hurricanes to the city of Philadelphia.
Miami(4-0) got seven points in the opening quarter and 17 points during the second quarter for a 24-0 lead. Temple (2-2) picked up a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half and trailed 24-7 at halftime. The Canes garnered two more touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game out of reach for the Owls.

Columbus Glides By Miami Northwestern
The defending FHSAA Class 4M state champions the Columbus Explorers knocked off the Miami Northwestern Bulls 24-7 on Friday night. These have been two of the finest Dade County high schools on the gridiron over the last eight years.
Columbus(5-0) got a field goal two minutes into the second quarter. Miami Northwestern(1-4) answered back three minutes later with a score and they had a 7-3 halftime advantage. The Explorers compiled three touchdowns in the second half for a 21-point margin.
The Bulls will visit West Palm Beach and face the undefeated Cardinal Newman Crusaders in a week. The Explorers will remain home next week and take on the Miami Stingarees.
St. Thomas Aquinas Routs Treasure Coast
The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders easily handled the Treasure Coast Titans 42-6 on Friday night at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale. Both teams had strong playoff runs last year
St. Thomas Aquinas(4-1), who have won four straight games, controlled the contest from the start. STA had a 17-0 lead after one quarter and were up 27-0 at halftime. Treasure Coast(4-1) could only muster just one touchdown in the final quarter after giving up 42 consecutive points to the Raiders.
The Titans will head up north and challenge the Cocoa Tigers in a week The Raiders will host the Miramar Patriots next week.
Brewers Wallop Marlins
The Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Miami Marlins 16-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Brewers clinched a National League postseason berth with the victory.
Milwaukee(88-66) put up an incredible 12 runs in the top of the second. They had one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Miami(79-75) scored their only run during the bottom of the eighth.
Atlantic Falls To Cardinal Newman
The Atlantic Eagles were defeated by the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 13-7 in overtime on Friday night at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach. It was a clash between two of the best high school football programs this year in Palm Beach County.
Neither team was able to score in the first half. Cardinal Newman(4-0) got on the scoreboard on the first play from scrimmage during the third quarter. Defensive lineman Ta'Narie Locust intercepted a screen play in the middle and returned it to the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
Atlantic(4-1) came back to tie it 7-7 with 4:00 left in the third. Quarterback Lincoln Graf faked a handoff and walked into the end zone on the left side from three yards away. There would be no scoring in the fourth quarter.
In overtime, the Eagles were stopped on fourth down at the one-yard line. The Crusaders got the win on an eight-yard touchdown run through the right side by running back Jaylin Brown.
The Crusaders will host the Miami Northwestern Bulls from Dade County next week. The Eagles return home to Delray Beach and challenge the Pahokee Blue Devils.

Palm Beach Central Downs Park Vista
The Palm Beach Central Broncos took care of the Park Vista Cobras 37-7 at Broncos Stadium on Thursday night. Palm Beach Central(4-0) remained unbeaten so far this season.
Park Vista(1-3) kept up in the first quarter and they were tied 7-7. The Broncos would score 30 unanswered points in the remaining three quarters of the contest, which included 13 points during the second quarter.
The Cobras, who have lost three straight games, will host the Boca Raton Bobcats in a Class 4M District 11 game next week. The Broncos will visit the John I. Leonard Lancers in a week for a Class 4M District 10 matchup.
Chaminade-Madonna Takes Miami Central
The defending FHSAA Class1M state champion Chaminade-Madonna Lions edged the defending FHSAA Class 2M state champion Miami Central Rockets 31-28 at Traz Powell Stadium on Thursday night. Both South Florida high schools look to repeat as state champs.
It was tied between both teams 14-14 at the end of one quarter. Miami Central(1-2) moved ahead 21-17, but Chaminade-Madonna(5-0) chalked up two more touchdowns for a 31-21 halftime lead.
The Rockets reached the end zone in the third quarter and trailed 31-28. Miami Central had their last possession stopped on the second interception of the game by defensive back Curtis Janiver with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter.
The Lions travel to the Coconut Creek Cougars in a week. The Rockets will play the North Miami Beach Chargers next week in a 2M District 12 clash.

Mets Mash Marlins
The New York Mets moved by the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have won three of their last five games and remain outside for a National League playoff spot.
New York(71-81) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. American Heritage grad Mark Vientos connected with a solo home run to left field on a 0-2 pitch.
In the third inning, the Mets added two more runs to go up 3-0. Ronny Mauricio singled into right field and Brandon Nimmo crossed the plate. Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Mauricio.
Miami(79-74) cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Garrett Hampson drove in Bryan De La Cruz on a sacrifice fly to center.
It became 4-1 for New York in the top of the sixth. Vientos blasted his second home run of the contest on a 0-2 count to left field for his seventh homer of the season.
The Fish closed it to 4-2 during the bottom of the sixth. Josh Bell hammered a solo home run to left-center field on a 3-1 pitch for his 21st homer of the year.
The Mets answered back quickly in the seventh inning with two runs for a 6-2 advantage. Alonso knocked in Nimmo with a base hit into center field. Francisco Lindor grounded out to short and Mauricio reached home. Brett Baty lifted a solo home run to right field in the top of the eighth for his eighth homer of the 2023 campaign and gave them a 7-2 lead.
Inter Miami CF Covers Toronto FC
Inter Miami CF blanked Toronto FC 4-0 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night. Both teams entered the game with the two worst records in the Eastern Conference.
There will be one more Major League Soccer contest for Inter Miami CF prior to their match against the Houston Dynamo for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They will visit Orlando City SC on Sunday.
Inter Miami CF(9-15-4) got a goal by Facundo Farias at stoppage time to end the first half. Robert Taylor increased it to 2-0 in the 54th minute.
Toronto FC(4-15-10) then trailed 3-0. Benjamin Cremaschi found the back of the cage in the 73rd minute of play. Taylor added a tally in the 87th minute for a four-goal margin.
Patric Hornqvist Rejoins Florida Panthers
Former Florida Panthers center has rejoined the Florida Panthers organization. He has been named the new scouting and development consultant in the hockey operations department.
Hornqvist won two Stanley Cup titles with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. He was dealt to the Panthers in September 2020. He compiled 63 points in 131 games with Florida and helped them reach the postseasons in three straight years. Hornqvist announced his retirement from the National Hockey League back in July.

Red Wings Ink Michael Hutchinson
The Detroit Red Wings have given goalie Michael Hutchinson a professional tryout offer. He will attempt to make their roster for the 2023-24 regular season.
Hutchinson had a short stint with the Florida Panthers back in 2018-19. He only played in four games with the club and chalked up a 1-1-2 record with a 4.17 goals-against-average.

Matt Moore Claimed By Marlins
The Miami Marlins have claimed left-handed pitcher Matt Moore from the Cleveland Guardians. He will be playing for his third team in the 2023 regular season.
Moore has been in the majors since 2011. He had stints with the Los Angeles Angels and the Cleveland Guardians earlier this year. Moore has been involved in 46 contests this season.
Amerant Bank Arena New Panthers Home
The Florida Panthers arena in Sunrise has been renamed Amerant Bank Arena. The venue has been looking for a sponsor name in the last two years. It was known recently as FLA Live Arena during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

Orlando Franklin Out At KKFN-FM
Orlando Franklin is no longer with KKFN-FM in Denver. He will continue as a college football game analyst for ESPN. Franklin announced the University of Miami Hurricanes home game alongside play-by-play announcer and former Miami sportscaster Jorge Sedano this past Saturday.
Franklin began his second stint at that radio station in June 2022 as an evening co-host. He was shifted to the afternoon co-host position in September 2022.
Mets Stride By Marlins
The New York Mets slipped by the Miami Marlins 2-1 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins had their winning streak snapped at three games.
New York(70-80) got up 1-0 in the top of the fifth. American Heritage High School grad Mark Vientos singled into center field for to score Ronny Mauricio.
Miami(78-73) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Jesus Sanchez scored on a double-play ground out by Joey Wendle.
The Mets would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth. Jeff McNeil socked a solo home run to right field on a 1-1 pitch. It turned out to be his 10th home run of the season.

Dolphins Drive By Patriots
The Miami Dolphins dumped the New England Patriots 24-17 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night. The Dolphins remained undefeated so far this year. The Patriots are winless after two games for the first time since the 2001 regular season.
Miami(2-0) got out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Jason Sanders booted a 23-yard field goal with 2:57 left.
The Dolphins made it 10-0 at the 9:39 mark of the second quarter when running back Raheem Mostert rushed in from eight yards away. New England(0-2) closed it to 10-3 on a 49-yard field goal with 1:53 to go in the second.
The Fins extended it to 17-3 with 11 seconds remaining in the first half. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa tossed a two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
In the fourth quarter, the Patriots cut the deficit to 17-10 with11:21 left when quarterback connected a six-year pass to tight end Hunter Henry. The Dolphins responded with a 43-yard touchdown run through the left side of the line by Mostert with 8:45 left for a 24-10 lead.
New England chalked up a touchdown and trailed 24-17 with 5:25 remaining in the contest. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson busted up the middle from two yards out.
Marlins Dominate Braves
The Miami Marlins blasted the Atlanta Braves 16-2 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins were able to get the three-game sweep against the new National League East Division champion Braves.
Michael Frolik Joins Rytiri Kladno
Former Florida Panthers forward Michael Frolik will be playing this season with Rytiri Kladno in the Cech Extraliga. He will be a teammate of former Panthers player Jaromir Jagr.
Frolik was once with the Florida Panthers from 2008-09 until 2010-11. He played in 213 games and compiled 117 points.

Atlanta United FC Streaks By Inter Miami CF
Inter Miami CF was defeated by Atlanta United FC 5-2 on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Lionel Messi and several other starters did not play after they participated with their national teams over the past two weeks.
Leonardo Campana scored in the 25th minute to give Inter Miami CF(8-15-4) a 1-0 lead. It was downhill from there as Atlanta United FC(12-8-9) got three goals during the remaining part of the first half and had a 3-1 advantage.
It stopped a 12-game unbeaten streak by Inter Miami CF in all game competitions. They will host Toronto FC on Wednesday.
Marlins Outduel Braves
The Miami Marlins outlasted the Atlanta Braves 11-5 the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on Saturday. The Marlins will end up winning the three-game weekend series against Atlanta(96-52).
Both clubs were tied at 5-5 after six innings. Miami(77-72) was able to collect six runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.
Jimmy Butler On Lindy's Sports Magazine
Miami Heat guard Jimmy Butler is on the front magazine cover of Lindy's Sports annual NBA publication. It is specialized cover for the Florida area. He has appeared on the cover in previous seasons as a member of the Heat.
Butler helped the Miami Heat win the Eastern Conference title in 2022-23 and for the second time in the last four seasons. They lost in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets in five games.

Chaminade-Madonna Tops American Heritage
The FHSAA Class 1M state champions the Chaminade-Madonna Lions stopped the FHSAA Class 2M state finalist the American Heritage Patriots 28-16 at Heritage Field on Friday night. Both of these Broward County high schools were undefeated heading into this game.
Chaminade-Madonna(4-0) raced out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Defensive back Curtis Janiver intercepted a pass and returned it for a 50-yard score three minutes into the contest. Lions quarterback Cedrick Bailey threw a 12-yard strike to wide receiver Jeremiah Smith with six minutes left in the opening quarter. Bailey connected a 25-yard touchdown pass to Smith with three minutes remaining in the first. American Heritage(2-1) got a 26-yard field goal from Gavin Henry at 10:41 of the second quarter and were down 21-3 at halftime.
The Patriots reached the end zone as running back Byron Louis scored on a one-yard touchdown run up the middle and trailed 21-10 after three quarters. The Lions extended it to 28-10 at the 8:44 mark of the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown run through the right side by running back Arrwin Jackson. The Pats added a touchdown at the midway point of the final quarter and were behind 28-16.
American Heritage will challenge longtime district rival the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs two weeks from now in Plantation. The Lions will visit Traz Powell Stadium next week and face the FHSAA Class 2M state champions the Miami Central Rockets.
Cardinal Newman Eases By Catholic Memorial
The Cardinal Newman Crusaders handled the Catholic Memorial Knights 35-2 on Friday night at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach. Catholic Memorial(1-1) made the trip from Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Cardinal Newman(3-0) had a 7-0 lead after one quarter and stayed ahead 14-0 by halftime. The Crusaders added three more touchdowns and were up 35-2. The undefeated Crusaders will host the undefeated Atlantic Eagles next week.
Steve Wyche Gets Podcast
Former South Florida sportswriter Steve Wyche is about to get into the podcasting field. He will co-host The NFL Report with James Palmer on the NFL Podcast Network.
Wyche was a sportswriter for the Miami Herald and covered the Miami Dolphins from 1994 until 1996. He eventually was switched over to the Miami Heat beat.
He moved to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and became the Atlanta Falcons beat writer. Wyche then jumped to the NFL Network as a senior writer. Wyche later added duties as the NFL AM studio co-host and a studio analyst on several of their shows.
Braves Blitzed By Marlins
The Miami Marlins survived the Atlanta Braves 9-6 at loanDepot park. The Marlins began a six-game homestand. The Braves clinched the National League East Division on Wednesday for the sixth straight time.
Miami(76-72) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Luis Arraez cracked a solo home run to right field on a 1-2 pitch for his eighth homer this year. Bryan De La Cruz later knocked in Jake Burger on a base hit through the middle. Jesus Sanchez followed with a triple to into the right-center field gap and De La Cruz crossed the plate.
It became 4-0 for the Fish in the second inning. Burger singled into left field for Jacob Stallings to score.
Atlanta(96-51) made it 4-1 in the top of the third. Michael Harris II smashed a solo homer to left field for his 17th home run of the season. A little bit later in the frame, Austin Riley drove in Ronald Acuna Jr. on a base hit through the right side.
The Braves closed it to 4-3 in the fourth inning. Acuna hit a sacrifice fly into the right-field corner and Orlando Arcia reached home. In the fifth inning, they tied it up 4-4. Riley was able to score on sacrifice fly by Eddie Rosario.
Atlanta moved ahead 6-4 with two runs in the top of the sixth. Miami leaped by with five runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-6 advantage.

Hurricanes Trounce Bethune-Cookman
The University of Miami Hurricanes belted the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats 48-7 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night. It was the first 3-0 start for the Hurricanes since the 2020 season. The Canes will visit Philadelphia and play Temple University next week.
Miami(3-0) rambled out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Canes would have a comfortable lead 34-0 at halftime. Bethune-Cookman(1-2) broke the shutout with 1:19 left in the fourth quarter.
Atlantic Charges Boca Raton
The Atlantic Eagles rolled by the Boca Raton Bobcats 44-14 at Atlantic Stadium in Delray Beach on Thursday night. It was a battle between two Palm Beach County high schools that are seven miles apart off I-95.
Atlantic(4-0) fired out with 13 points during the opening quarter and had a commanding 30-0 halftime lead. Boca Raton(1-2) outscored their opponent in the third quarter and trailed 38-14.
The undefeated Eagles will head for West Palm Beach next week and take on the Cardinal Newman Crusaders. The Bobcats will go west on Glades Road and face the Olympic Heights Lions in a week.
Palm Beach Gardens Routs Glades Central
The Palm Beach Gardens went to The Muck for the first of two visits over the next two weeks and dropped the Glades Central Raiders 35-0 at Effie C. Grear Field in Belle Glade on Thursday night. The two traditional Palm Beach County high school powerhouses have records that have not been better than expected this year.
Palm Beach Gardens(2-2) compiled 22 points against Glades Central(0-3) in the first quarter. The Gators, who will play at Pahokee next week, controlled the game for the rest of the way. The Raiders will host the Dwyer Panthers in a week.
St. Thomas Aquinas Wraps Western
The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders defeated the Western Wildcats 48-22 at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night. STA responded following their close win last week versus the Cocoa Tigers.
St. Thomas Aquinas(3-1) had a 14-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter and were ahead 27-10 at halftime. Western(1-2) gained some traction scoring first in second half, however they were down 34-16 after three quarters.
The Raiders will host their fifth consecutive game to start the 2023 regular season as they challenge the Treasure Coast Titans. The Wildcats begin 4M District 13 play next week when they host the Taravella Trojans.
Benjamin Blanks Gulliver Prep
The Benjamin Buccaneers picked up a 49-0 shutout victory over the Gulliver Prep Raiders on Thursday night in Palm Beach Gardens. Both teams came into the game with undefeated records in 2023.
Benjamin(3-0) powered out with 42 points in the first quarter. Gulliver Prep(3-1) trailed by 49 points by halftime. A running clock was implemented for the second half of play.
The Buccaneers will visit the Jensen Beach Falcons in a week. The Raiders will return to Palm Beach County next week and face The King's Academy Lions.
Monarch Mashes Piper
The Monarch Knights slammed the Piper Bengals 32-6 on Wednesday night in Sunrise. Both Broward County high schools had winning records going into this contest.
Monarch(3-1) piled on the points in the first half. They continued their momentum against Piper(2-2) in the second half.
The Knights start 4M District 12 play next week as they visit the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagles. The Bengals host the McArthur Mustangs in a week.
Brewers Brush Off Marlins
The Milwaukee Brewers pushed by the Miami Marlins 4-2 at American Family Field on Thursday. The Marlins return home to face the Atlanta Braves on Friday. The Brewers will finish the 2023 season with a winning record.
Miami(75-72) scooted to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Brewers were able to match it in the bottom of the fourth.
The Marlins added another run during the top of the fifth and led 2-1. Milwaukee(82-64) leaped by with two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-2 advantage. The Brew Crew made it 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh.
Florida Panthers PTO To Brett Ritchie
The Florida Panthers have made a professional tryout offer to right wing Brett Ritchie. He will attempt to make the team's regular season roster.
Ritchie had participated in the National Hockey League for the past nine seasons. He split his time in 2022-23 with the Calgary Flames and the Arizona Coyotes.
Marlins At Brewers
The Miami Marlins finish off a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field this afternoon. The Marlins will complete a seven-game road trip before hosting the newly crowned six-time defending National League East champions the Atlanta Braves this weekend.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia Tops John I. Leonard
The Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs got their first win in school history with a 28-6 victory over the John I. Leonard Lancers in Lake Worth on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs had not scored a point in their first two contests.
After a scoreless first quarter, Dr. Joaquin Garcia(1-2) had a 14-6 lead at halftime. John I. Leonard(0-4) could not score in the second half. The Bulldogs found the end zone with touchdowns by quarterback Ramon DeLeon in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter.
The Lancers stay on the road next week as they challenge the Suncoast Chargers. The Bulldogs will remain home in a week versus another independent Palm Beach County high school the Spanish River Sharks.
Marlins Shut Out Brewers
The Miami Marlins blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 on Wednesday night at American Family Field. The Marlins collected their ninth shutout of the 2023 campaign. Both clubs the four-game series tomorrow.
Miami(75-71) had a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Xavier Edwards knocked in Jesus Snachez on a base hit to left field.
Milwaukee(81-64) gave up another run in the top of the seventh. Garrett Hampson doubled into left field for Bryan De La Cruz to score.
Olli Juolevi Heads To Arizona
Former Florida Panthers defenseman Olli Juolevi is moving on to the Arizona Coyotes. He has signed a professional tryout offer with that team.
He began the 2022-23 season with the Florida Panthers and compiled no points in 10 games. He was selected off waivers by the Detroit Red Wings on March 6.

Colin White Goes To Penguins
Former Florida Panthers center Colin White has agreed to a professional tryout offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was with the Ottawa Senators in his first six NHL seasons.
White spent last season with Florida. He ended up with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 68 games with the Panthers.
Marlins Overcome Phillies
The Miami Marlins came back on the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. The Marlins took two games of the three-game series.
Philadelphia(78-64) got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the third. Miami(74-69) put up three runs in the top of the seventh and two runs during the top of the eighth for a 5-3 lead.

The Miami Hurricanes knocked off the Texas A&M Aggies 48-33 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Miami(2-0) got a home victory over SEC counterpart Texas A&M(1-1).
Venice Outduels Miami Northwestern
The Venice Indians made the long trip from the west coast and outscored the Miami Northwestern Bulls 63-46 at Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday night. Both high schools have won several FHSAA state championships in the last seven years.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the opening quarter. Venice(1-2) outdid Miami Northwestern(1-2) in the second quarter and had a 28-20 halftime lead. The Indians had a 28-14 advantage during the third quarter and were up 56-34.
The Bulls will challenge the Miami Edison Red Raiders in a week. The Indians will be home against River Ridge next week.
Palm Beach Gardens Takes Dwyer
The Palm Beach Gardens Gators went four miles up Military Trail to stop the Dwyer Panthers 17-9 at Blum Stadium on Saturday night. The Gators had a quick turnaround as they played their second game in the last four days.
Palm Beach Gardens(1-2) were able to lead 17-7 at halftime. Dwyer(0-3) had the only scoring during the second half as they got a safety early in the fourth quarter.
The Gators will get to visit the Glades Central Raiders next week. The Panthers will host West Broward in a week.
Inter Miami CF Tangles Sporting Kansas City
Inter Miami CF held off Sporting Kansas City 3-2 at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday night. The team did not have Lionel Messi and other players participating in the contest. They are playing for the past week with their national teams.
Daniel Salloi gave Sporting Kansas City (8-12-8) a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play. Inter Miami CF(8-14-4) controlled the rest of the first half. Leonardo Campana put in a penalty kick at the 25-minute mark and he scored again in the 45th minute.
It became 3-1 for Inter Miami CF when Facundo Farias scored in the 60th minute. Sporting KC cut it to 3-2 as Alan Pulido found the net during the 78th minute.
Phillies Blitz Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies scrambled the Miami Marlins 8-5 on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins have won seven of their last nine contests.
Philadelphia(78-63) powered out with five runs in the bottom of the second. Miami(73-69) picked up four runs during the top of the fifth and trailed 5-4. The Phillies responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Marlins Salvage Phillies
The Miami Marlins pulled off a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night. Both clubs are trying to reach the National League Playoffs as wild-card teams.
Miami(73-68) have been victorious in seven of their last eight games. Philadelphia(77-63) remains on top in the National League Wild-Card standings.
Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner returned to the Phillies lineup. He was on paternity leave where his wife Kristen gave birth to their son Tatum.
Chaminade-Madonna Bashes Bergen Catholic
The Chaminade-Madonna Lions outscored the Bergen Catholic Crusaders 61-21 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday night. It was a matchup between one of the best high schools in Florida and one from New Jersey.
Chaminade-Madonna(3-0) rolled out to a 27-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. They increased their lead over Bergen Catholic(2-1) by halftime 40-7. Both teams scored two touchdowns each in the third quarter. The Lions added another touchdown in the final quarter for a 40-point margin.
St. Thomas Aquinas Survives Cocoa
The Cocoa Tigers left Fort Lauderdale with a 37-36 loss to the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at Simmons Family Field on Friday night. It was a battle between two FHSAA state champions.
Cocoa(2-1) is the defending FHSAA Class 2S state champs. St. Thomas Aquinas(2-1) is the defending FHSAA Class 3M state champs along with capturing four consecutive state titles.
The Raiders reached the end zone first and had a 7-6 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers leaped by and were ahead 16-14 at halftime. Both teams exchanged two touchdowns during the third quarter and Cocoa led 29-27.
It came down to the final quarter. Cocoa scored two minutes into the fourth as Brady Hart completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Jayvan Boggs. STA was able to match it quickly one minute later on a Jordan Lyle 21-yard touchdown run to make it 36-34. The Raiders finished the contest on a 19-yard field goal with six seconds to go for a 37-36 victory.
Cardinal Gibbons Rush By Dillard
The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs sailed by the Dillard Panthers 38-6 at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday night. It was a game between two former district foes in Fort Lauderdale.
Cardinal Gibbons(2-1) had a 3-0 lead after one quarter and were up 10-6 at halftime over Dillard(1-2). The Chiefs piled on 21 points during the third quarter for a 31-6 advantage.
The Chiefs will head for St. Petersburg next week as they visit the Northeast Vikings. The Panthers will host the Miramar Patriots in two weeks.
Pahokee Pounds Palm Beach Lakes
The Pahokee Blue Devils dismantled the Palm Beach Lakes Rams 42-0 in West Palm Beach on Friday night. Both Palm Beach County high schools entered the contest undefeated.
Pahokee(2-1) chalked up 21 points in the first quarter and 14 points in the second quarter for a 35-0 halftime lead over Palm Beach Lakes(2-1). With a running clock during the second half, the Blue Devils added eight points in the final quarter.
The Blue Devils will host the Palm Beach Central Broncos in a week. The Rams will be at home versus the Seminole Ridge Hawks next week.
West Palm Beach Ratings August 2023
The ratings were issued for West Palm Beach sports talk radio stations. The time span went from the third week of July to the third week of August.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM broke a tie with a registered competitor as they rose from a 0.2 to a 0.4 in the period. The local audience is looking forward to the Florida Atlantic University football season and shifting into the American Athletic Conference.
Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM stayed at a 0.2 for the 12th consecutive month, which is a complete year. The Miami Marlins were on the edge for a National League wild-card spot with a 63-59 record.

Vero Beach Tops Palm Beach Gardens
The Vero Beach Indians defeated the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 26-11 at Billy Livings Field in Vero Beach on Wednesday night. The contest was postponed last week due to the impact of a hurricane throughout Indian River County.
Vero Beach(2-0) hurried out to a 19-3 lead by halftime. Palm Beach Gardens(0-2) could not climb out from the deficit during the second half.
The Gators have a quick turnover and will play at their crosstown rival the Dwyer Panthers on Saturday night. The Indians will host Fort Pierce Westwood next week.
Monarch Invades Hallandale
The Monarch Knights went on the road and disposed of the Hallandale Chargers 52-0 on Thursday night. The Knights bounced back from their close loss last week to Atlantic and will visit Piper next week.
Monarch(2-1) piled on 33 points in the first quarter alone. They and Hallandale(0-2) used a running clock during the second half.
Santaluces Stomps Olympic Heights
The Santaluces Chiefs smoked by the Olympic Heights Lions 48-12 on Thursday night in Lantana. Both high schools started the beginning of the 2023 regular season well.
Santaluces(3-0) had a 13-6 advantage at the end of one quarter. They added 21 points in the second quarter against Olympic Heights(2-1) and led 34-6 at halftime.
The Chiefs leave for Louisiana to challenge John Curtis Christian next week. The Lions travel to Lake Worth in a week.
Atlantic Surfs By North Miami Beach
The Atlantic Eagles handled the North Miami Beach Chargers 36-13 at Atlantic Stadium in Delray Beach on Thursday night. It was a rare meeting on the gridiron between both high schools from different counties.
Atlantic(3-0) was able to get out to a 15-6 lead by halftime. North Miami Beach(0-3) cut it to 15-13 at the end of the third quarter, however Atlantic chalked up 21 points in the fourth. The Eagles will host their local rival the Boca Raton Bobcats next week.
Dodgers Dump Marlins
The Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the Miami Marlins 10-0 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. The Dodgers avoided a three-game series sweep to the Marlins. The Fish had their six-game winning streak snapped.
Los Angeles(85-54) had a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Will Smith singled into center field to score former Marlins player Miguel Rojas.
The Dodgers added two more runs in the top of the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Chris Taylor knocked in Amed Rosario on a base hit to center field. Kiki Hernandez followed with a ground-rule double to right-center field and Max Muncy reached home.
It became 7-0 for Los Angeles in the sixth inning as they four runs. Freddie Freeman doubled down the right-field line and the ballboy got to the ball and threw it into he stands. Mookie Betts was awarded home on the play. Two batters later, Rosario singled through the left side for Freeman and Smith to cross the plate. BetQL Network Gets Brandon Marshall
Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall has joined BetQL Network as a Sunday evening co-host on syndicated radio. He was recently at Inside The NFL on Showtime through the end of the 2022 NFL season.
Marshall has been in different parts of the media since he retired from the National Football League. He became a co-host of First Things First on Fox Sports 1 in August 2020. Marshall began as a co-host on a national television program called Beat The Odds Show on Gray Television in February 2022.
He created and launched the I Am Athlete podcast when he left pro football. It was then added and aired during evenings on Mad Dog Radio at SiriusXM Radio with Chad Johnson as a co-host in April 2022.
Mina Kimes Joining Meadowlark Media
ESPN National Football League reporter Mina Kimes will be joining Meadowlark Media. She will appear weekly on the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.
Kimes just signed a new contract with ESPN covering the NFL. She continues as a studio analyst on their weekday NFL Live program.
Dolphins Extend Blake Ferguson
The Miami Dolphins have extended the contract of long snapper Blake Ferguson. The deal will be through the 2026 season.
Ferguson won the CFP National Championship with the LSU Tigers in 2019. He has played his entire three-year National Football League career with the Dolphins.

Marlins Speed By Dodgers
The Miami Marlins raced by the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins look to complete a three-game sweep against the Dodgers tomorrow.
Los Angeles(84-54) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Jason Heyward bashed a solo home run to right-center field on a full count for his 14th homer of the year.
Miami(72-67) looked like they might score in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and two out. Xavier Edwards hit the ball to right field and Heyward scaled the fence to make a spectacular catch.
The Marlins moved ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Joey Wendle sliced a two-run homer to right field on a 1-2 pitch with Jacob Stalling aboard. It was just his second home run of the 2023 season. The Fish would score seven more runs in the frame for an eight-run margin.
Miami Ratings August 2023
The Miami/Fort Lauderdale sports talk radio stations ratings were released. The time span was from the third week of July until the third week of August.
AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM increased from a 0.7 to a 1.0 in the period. Lionel Messi made his playing debut with Inter Miami CF which created a social buzz. The club continued to roll in Leagues Cup competition.
Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM improved to a 0.2 after five consecutive months with a 0.1. The Miami Marlins were contending for a National League wild-card spot with a 63-59 record. The Miami Dolphins began preseason game broadcasts with their new flagship radio station.
The stream for WQAM went from a 0.1 to a 0.2 due to Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF. It previously was a 0.1 for two periods.

Marlins Dodge Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Miami Marlins 6-3 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. It was the first game that Miguel Rojas played in South Florida he was traded to the Dodgers during the offseason.
Los Angeles(84-63) put up two runs during the top of the third. Freddie Freeman singled into right field to score James Outman. Will Smith followed with a base hit into right-center field and Rojas crossed the plate.
Miami(71-67) cut it to 2-1 on the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth. Jake Burger lined a solo home run to left field for his 31st homer of the season.
The Marlins jumped to the lead 3-2 in the fifth inning. Josh Bell smashed a two-run homer to center field on the first pitch with Jorge Soler on base for his 20th home run of the 2023 campaign.
The Dodgers tied it up 3-3 in the seventh inning. Chris Taylor lifted a solo home run to left field on a 0-2 count for his 14th homer of the year.
In the eighth inning, Miami pulled ahead 6-3. Bryan De La Cruz cracked a two-run homer to left field on a 2-0 pitch with Burge aboard for his 18th home run of the 2023 season. Jazz Chisholm Jr. came up next and belted a home run to right field on a 1-2 count for his 15th homer.
Jimmy Buffett Passes Away
Jimmy Buffett passed away on Friday at the age of 76. The singer, songwriter and entertainer had a connection with South Florida sports.
Buffett was a season-ticket holder of the Miami Heat going back to their original home at Miami Arena. He would sit in the front row on the end line near the Miami Heat bench in their former venue and their current home at Kaseya Center.
His beer company Landshark Lager had the naming rights to the stadium in Miami Gardens from May 2009 until January 2010. Landshark Stadium housed the Miami Dolphins, the Florida Marlins and the University of Miami Hurricanes during that time span.

Inter Miami CF Beats LAFC
Inter Miami CF handled Los Angeles FC 3-1 at BMO Stadium on Sunday night. It was the first time Inter Miami CF played at that venue since their first game in franchise history back in March 2020. They finally defeated LAFC in a Major League Soccer game for the first time in three tries.
In the first half, Inter Miami CF(7-14-4) got a 1-0 lead. Facundo Farias scored during the 14th minute of play.
They continued to roll ahead in the second half. Jordi Alba found the net in the 51st minute and Leonardo Campana added a tally in the 83rd minute for a 3-0 advantage. LAFC(11-8-7) broke the shutout in the 90th minute on a goal by Ryan Hollingshead.
Marlins Sweep Nationals
The Miami Marlins got by the Washington Nationals 6-4 at Nationals Park on Sunday. The Marlins were able to sweep the four-game series from the Nationals.
It was the first time that Marlins reached 70 wins in a season since 2017. The Fish are now tied for the final National League wild-card spot with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds.
Miami(70-67) blasted out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Washington(62-76) eventually took the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth with three runs. The Fish leaped by the Nationals with two runs during the ninth inning.

Jorge Lopez Claimed By Orioles
Miami Marlins pitcher Jorge Lopez has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles. It is a return for Lopez back to that organization.
Lopez was acquired by Miami from the Minnesota Twins for Dylan Florio back on July 26. He had a 2-0 record with a 9.26 earned run average in 12 relief appearances for the Marlins.
Miami Northwestern Buries Miami Jackson
The Miami Northwestern Bulls walloped the Miami Jackson Generals 63-0 at Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday night. It was a tangle between two teams in Class 2M District 14.
Miami Northwestern(1-1, 1-0), who will host the Venice Indians next week, had seven points in the first quarter and 14 points in the second quarter for a 21-0 halftime lead. They added 21 points in the third and 21 points in the fourth. Miami Jackson(0-2, 0-1) will look get their first regular season win versus Southridge in a week.
Marlins Attack Nationals
The Miami Marlins dropped the Washington Nationals 11-5 on Saturday at Nationals Park. The Marlins will go for the four-game weekend series sweep on Sunday.
Miami(69-67) picked up a run in each of the first two innings. Washington(62-75) collected one run in the bottom of the second and trailed 2-1. The Marlins added four runs in the third and three runs during the fourth for a commanding 9-1 lead.
Bishop Gorman Takes Miami Central
The Bishop Gorman Gaels edged the Miami Central Rockets 39-35 in Las Vegas on Friday night. Both high schools were ranked among the top 10 teams in the United States.
Both schools were tied at 7-7 after the opening quarter. Bishop Gorman(3-0) was ahead 21-14 heading into halftime. Miami Central(0-1) moved in front 28-27 by the end of the third quarter. The Gaels overcame in the final quarter and held off the Rockets. Miami Central will challenge the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes at Traz Powell Stadium next week.
Miami Norland Smashes Carol City
The Miami Norland Vikings shut out the Carol City Chiefs 52-0 in a Class 2M District 9 game on Friday. The game was held at Traz Powell Stadium.
Miami Norland(2-0) busted out to a fast lead and will visit Southridge next week. Carol City(0-2) was held scoreless for the second straight week and will play two weeks from now against the Miami Central Rockets.

Atlantic Slips By Monarch
The Atlantic Eagles barely got by the Monarch Knights 33-32 in northern Broward County on Friday night. Both high schools were able to make the FHSAA postseason last year.
Atlantic(2-0) returns home for next week against the North Miami Beach. Chargers. Monarch(1-1) challenges the Hallandale Chargers on the road in a week.
St. Thomas Aquinas Routs Fort Myers
The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders dominated the Fort Myers Green Wave 49-0 at Simmons Family Field on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. The Raiders bounced back from their loss last week to the defending national champions St. John Bosco.
St. Thomas Aquinas(1-1) jumped on their opponent during the first half. Fort Myers(1-1) could not keep up with the STA scoring.
Chaminade-Madonna Cruises By Cardinal Gibbons
The Chaminade-Madonna Lions went on the road and overwhelmed the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 41-4 at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It was a general surprise of the point difference in the game.
Chaminade-Madonna(2-0) pulled off another victory and will host Bergen Catholic next week. Cardinal Gibbons(1-1) will visit longtime local rival Dillard in a week.
The King's Academy Storms Glades Central
The King's Academy Lions blanked the Glades Central Raiders 43-0 in a Class 2M District 9 game at West Palm Beach on Friday night. Both Palm Beach County high schools have been postseason contenders over the last couple of years.
In the first half, The King's Academy(1-1) scored three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 21-0 halftime lead. Glades Central(0-2) surrendered 15 points in the third quarter and seven more points in the fourth.
Jupiter Goes Around Park Vista
The Jupiter Warriors lit up the Park Vista Cobras 35-0 on Friday night in Boynton Beach. Both teams got wins to open up their 2023 campaigns.
Jupiter(2-0) piled on 28 points in the first quarter for a commanding lead. The Warriors added another touchdown in the third quarter to shut out Park Vista(1-1).
Hurricanes Explode Miami (Ohio)
The University of Miami Hurricanes blew out the Miami University RedHawks 38-3 at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night. It was the first game of the 2023 regular season for both schools. It's a rare college sports event between both universities with the same Miami name.
Miami(1-0) broke out to 10-0 lead in the first half. Miami(Ohio) (0-1) placed their only points on the scoreboard with a field goal midway in the second quarter. The Canes added another score and had a 16-3 advantage at halftime.
The Hurricanes put up eight points during the third quarter. They added two more touchdowns in the final quarter.
Marlins Topple Nationals
The Miami Marlins moved by the Washington Nationals 8-5 in 11 innings on Friday night at Nationals Park. The Marlins have won two straight and three of their last five contests.
Both Miami(68-67) and Washington(62-74) scored one run in the 10th inning. The Marlins picked up four runs in the top of the 11th capped by a Garrett Hampson two-run homer.
Channing Crowder Joins Inside The NFL
Channing Crowder will be joining Inside The NFL as a panelist for the 2023 season. The program will have Ryan Clark as the studio host along with panelists Chad Johnson, Jay Cutler and Chris Long. Inside The NFL shifted from Paramount+ to the CW Network this year.
Crowder played 82 games with the Miami Dolphins as a linebacker from 2005 to 2010. He entered the radio broadcasting field with 560 WQAM-AM. He was the early afternoon co-host with Adam Kuperstein from October 2012 to September 2013 and from January 2014 until July 2015.
He had a short stint as the afternoon co-host with Brandon Guzio from September 2013 to December 2013. Crowder has co-hosted afternoon drive with Marc Hochman at WQAM since August 2015.
Palm Beach Central Pass Boca Raton
The Palm Beach Central Broncos outslugged the Boca Raton Bobcats 37-21 in Boca Raton on Thursday night. It was a battle between two large-size schools.
Palm Beach Central(2-0) had a 23-14 lead by halftime. There was less scoring by them and Boca Raton(0-1) during the second half.
Dolphins Extend Alec Ingold
The Miami Dolphins have made a contract extension to fullback Alec Ingold. It is a three-year deal that is worth around $12.2 million.
Ingold played in all 17 regular season games for the Dolphins in 2022. He ended up out of the backfield with 15 catches for 105 receiving yards and one touchdown with Miami last year.
