Atlantic Falls To Cardinal Newman

The Atlantic Eagles were defeated by the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 13-7 in overtime on Friday night at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach. It was a clash between two of the best high school football programs this year in Palm Beach County.
Neither team was able to score in the first half. Cardinal Newman(4-0) got on the scoreboard on the first play from scrimmage during the third quarter. Defensive lineman Ta'Narie Locust intercepted a screen play in the middle and returned it to the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
Atlantic(4-1) came back to tie it 7-7 with 4:00 left in the third. Quarterback Lincoln Graf faked a handoff and walked into the end zone on the left side from three yards away. There would be no scoring in the fourth quarter.
In overtime, the Eagles were stopped on fourth down at the one-yard line. The Crusaders got the win on an eight-yard touchdown run through the right side by running back Jaylin Brown.
The Crusaders will host the Miami Northwestern Bulls from Dade County next week. The Eagles return home to Delray Beach and challenge the Pahokee Blue Devils.
