Mets Cruise By Marlins

The New York Mets pushed by the Miami Marlins 11-2 at Citi Field on Wednesday. It was the first game of a doubleheader. The Marlins are playing six games in five days to finish the regular season and are looking to make the postseason.
New York(72-85) ran out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Pete Alonso blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 3-2 pitch with Brandon Nimmo aboard. It was the 46th home run for Alonso this season.
The Mets increased it to 4-0 in the third inning. Francisco Lindor lifted a two-run home run to left-center field on a 2-2 count for his 28th homer of the year. Alonso scored in front of him on the play.
In the sixth inning, American Heritage High School grad Mark Vientos smacked a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his ninth home run of the 2023 campaign.
Miami(81-76) finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh and made it 6-2. Nick Fortes doubled into the right-center field gap to score Jazz Chisholm Jr. Jorge Soler later hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Fortes reached home.
New York added three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-2 advantage. Nimmo and Ronny Mauricio scored on a base hit up the middle by Lindor. Two batters later, Jeff McNeil got an infield single with the bases loaded for Alonso to score. Alonso crossed the plate for his fourth run of the game.
