The Miami Marlins finished off a five-game series with the Washington Nationals and were victorious 11-8 at Nationals Park on Monday night. The Fish next head to New York for a doubleheader on Tuesday and face the Mets, who has not played a game since August 19 in Miami due to the positive tests of two people to coronavirus.
Miami(12-11) moved ahead 1-0 during the third inning. Jesus Aguilar walked with the bases loaded and Jonathan Villar scored.
In the fourth inning, the Marlins compiled six more runs for a 7-0 lead. Brian Anderson scored on a base hit up the middle by Villar. Matt Joyce followed with a two-run single into right field to score Jorge Alfaro and Villar. Aguilar came up and doubled to center which brought in Miguel Rojas and Joyce. Corey Dickerson capped the big rally and drove in Aguilar with a single into right field.
Washington(11-15) got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with three runs. Victor Robles hit a sacrifice fly to center field for Yan Gomes to score. Adam Eaton knocked in Eric Thames with a single into left field. Two batters later, Howie Kendrick had a RBI-single to right which scored Eaton.
The Marlins compiled two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth. The Nationals were able to keep pace with two runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth for an 11-8 gap.
