The Miami Marlins were topped by the New York Mets 5-4 at Citi Field on Tuesday night. The Marlins had their three-game winning streak stopped.
In the first inning, New York(13-16) scored their first run since their hiatus from Major League Baseball. Robinson Cano smacked a ground-rule double over the right-field wall to score Michael Conforto.
The Mets made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Conforto belted a solo home run to right field on a 3-2 pitch.
Miami(14-12) cut it to 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Corey Dickerson grounded out to first for Matt Joyce to score.
New York expanded their lead in the fifth inning. Brandon Nimmo connected with a solo homer to right on a 0-1 count. Conforto would later score on a ground out by Dominic Smith to second.
The Marlins added three runs with the bases loaded during the eighth inning and tied it 4-4. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Jorge Alfaro with an infield hit to the left side. Dickerson followed with a walk and Jonathan Villar crossed the plate. Brian Anderson came up next and walked to bring home Jon Berti.
The Mets responded in the bottom of the frame. Wilson Ramos singled into right field and Billy Hamilton scored to make it 5-4.
