The Washington Nationals pounded the Miami Marlins 9-3 on Sunday at Nationals Park. The Marlins have lost seven of their last nine games. Both clubs conclude their five-game series on Monday.
Washington(11-14) scored in the first inning. Howie Kendrick doubled into center field to score Trea Turner.
Miami(11-11) tied it up 1-1 in the top of the second. Corey Dickerson sliced the first pitch over the left-field fence for his third homer with his new club.
The Nats reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second. Turner hit the ball to short for an infield single with Luis Garcia crossing the plate.
The Nationals added on two more runs in the fourth inning. Adam Eaton lined a double to the right-field warning track for Garcia and Turner to score.
In the fifth inning, Washington chalked up five more runs for a 9-1 lead. The bases were loaded when Carter Kieboom walked and Eric Thames scored. Victor Robles came up next and singled to through the left side which brought in Kurt Suzuki and Garcia. Turner then tripled down the right-field line for Kieboom and Robles to score.
The Marlins got two more runs in the ninth inning. Berti knocked in Magneuris Sierra with a single to left field. Jesus Sanchez followed with a RBI-double into the left-field corner for his first base hit in the majors to score Berti.
