Miami(9-7) scooted to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Matt Joyce hit a double into the right-center field gap to score Jonathan Villar.
New York(10-14) answered quickly in the top of the second. Dominic Smith had a two-run double to right field which brought in Michael Conforto and Robinson Cano. Two batters later, Smith scored on a double by Amed Rosario to center.
It became 5-1 for the Mets in the following inning. Cano lined a two-run homer to right-center field on a full count with J.D. Davis aboard.
In the fifth inning, they made it a five-run margin. Pete Alonso lifted a solo home run over the left-field fence on the first pitch.
The Marlins cut the lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the frame. Villar smacked a solo homer on the first pitch to center field.
The Mets added four more runs in the top of the sixth. Jeff McNeil knocked in Brandon Nimmo on a sacrifice fly to right. They then got back-to-back home runs as Cano and Alonso both nailed their second home runs of the contest to make it 10-2.
The Fish brought in second baseman Logan Forsythe to pitch in the ninth inning. New York increased their lead to 11-2 when Billy Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly into left for Rosario to cross the plate.
Miami put up two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Lewin Diaz drove in Monte Harrison with a base hit into center field. Jon Berti later singled through the left side with the bases loaded to score Diaz.
