In the first half, New York City FC got the only goal. Valentin Castellanos blasted a long right-footed shot from 22 yards in the 33rd minute.
Inter Miami CF tied it up 1-1 in the 56th minute. They took a corner kick from the left side and Nico Figal put in a half-volley shot with his right foot from six yards away. Figal scored his first goal with Inter Miami CF in his 46th appearance with the team.
The tie would not last long as NYCFC pulled ahead 2-1 in the 60th minute as Castellanos came in on a breakaway and scored from 14 yards out and now leads Major League Soccer in goals. New York City FC made it a two-goal gap during the 83rd minute when Talles Magno placed a 16-yard shot with his right foot.
