St. Thomas Aquinas Pays Back Cardinal Gibbons

     The defending FHSAA Class 7A state champion St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders gained revenge on the defending FHSAA Class 4A state champion Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 39-14 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton on Saturday night. The Chiefs finally defeated the Raiders 17-10 last year, which was their first meeting in this Broward County rivalry since 2010.
     St. Thomas Aquinas(7-1) was able to make it 6-0 at the 7:48 mark of the first quarter. Running back Anthony Hankerson went off-left tackle on a four-yard touchdown run. 
     The Raiders expanded it to 12-0 with 2:39 remaining in the first. Quarterback Zion Turner found wide receiver Camden Brown behind the Chiefs secondary on a 52-yard pass play. 
     STA increased it to a 19-point margin when running back Gemari Sands angled toward the left sideline and scored on a run from 32 yards away at 11:50 of the second quarter. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(5-2) got on the scoreboard with 8:35 left in the second quarter and trailed 19-7. Running back Kamari Moulton sprinted up the middle from five yards out for a touchdown. . 
     The Raiders responded with another score for a 26-7 lead with nine seconds to go in the first half. Turner rolled out to his left and connected a 12-yard touchdown pass to Brown in the back left corner of the end zone. 
     The Chiefs kept up with the pace during the third quarter. They cut the deficit to 26-14 with 6:22 left as Moulton reached the end zone for his second touchdown run in the contest. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas extended their lead to 32-14.at the 11:20 mark of the fourth quarter when Turner tossed a four-yard screen pass to Sands on the left side. It became 39-14 for the Raiders with 8:54 remaining as Sands went around the right end and down the right sideline for a 65-yard touchdown run.
