Bishop Gorman Stops St. Thomas Aquinas

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders lost to the Bishop Gorman Gaels 29-21 on Saturday at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale. The Raiders are looking to capture their sixth consecutive FHSAA state championship this year. The Gaels travelled across the country from Las Vegas. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas(0-1) broke out to a 7-0 lead with 5:24 left in the first quarter. Running back Jerry DeRosier busted up the middle on a two-yard touchdown run. 
     Bishop Gorman(1-0) answered back on their next possession to tie it up 7-7 with 3:36 to go in the first. Quarterback Melvin Spicer threw a 41-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Derek Meadows on the front middle of the end zone. 
     The Raiders reclaimed the 14-7 at the 8:47 mark of the second quarter. Quarterback Andrew Inhorf tossed a 10-yard pass to wide receiver Ah'Mari Stevens on the right side of the end zone.
     The Gaels closed it to 14-10 with 17 seconds remaining in the first half. Hudson Borsari booted a 28-yard field goal.
     STA extended it to an 11-point margin 21-10 with 4:48 to go in the third quarter. Wide receiver Julius Jones caught a long touchdown pass from Inhorf. 
     Bishop Gorman responded on their next drive. Spicer found wide receiver Kaina Watson down the field for a score with 2:52 remaining in the third. They added a field goal at the 10:05 mark of the fourth quarter and were down 21-20. 
     The Gaels took a 26-21 lead with 6:44 left in the fourth. Running back Terrance Grant ended up with a three-yard touchdown run, however they did not make the two-point conversion. Bishop Gorman added a late field goal in the final quarter and led 29-21.
