The New York Mets could not sweep the three-game series against the Miami Marlins and lost 3-2 at Citi Field on Sunday. The Marlins, who snapped a three-game losing streak, ended up their five-game road trip with a 2-3 record.
The Fish will return home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. The Mets will continue their nine-game homestand and host the Baltimore Orioles.
Miami(46-78) garnered one run in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead. Nick Fortes hit a sacrifice fly into center field to score Otto Lopez.
New York(64-60) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Francisco Lindor singled into left field and Jesse Winker reached home.
In the sixth inning, the Mets moved ahead 2-1 for their first lead of the contest. Brandon Nimmo belted a solo home run to right-center field on 0-1 pitch for his 18th homer of the season.
The Marlins pulled off the comeback in the late innings. Derek Hill scored on a wild pitch thrown by Mets pitcher Huascar Brazoban in the top of the seventh. Miami took a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning. Hill knocked in Jonah Bride on a base hit into left-center field.
