The Miami Heat blew a 22-point lead but held on to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-105 on Sunday at American Airlines Arena and extended their winning streak to 11 games. Dwyane Wade scored 15 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter. The Heat improved their home record to 24-3 this season.
Cleveland(18-36) started the game on an 8-2 advantage, however Miami(40-14) hit a 23-6 run at the end of period to lead 33-20 after one quarter. The Heat extended their margin to 20 points at 42-22 with 9:18 left in the first half and were up 64-46 at halftime.
Miami were ahead 68-46 just one minute into the second half, but the Cavs went on a 36-13 tear to take the lead 82-81 after three quarters. The Cavaliers expanded the gap to eight points midway through fourth quarter to 97-89. The Heat bounced back and finished with a 20-6 rally to win the game.
LeBron James knocked down 28 points with eight assists in 39 minutes for Miami. Mario Chalmers nailed 16 points in 35 minutes while Shane Battier came off the bench with 14 points in 24 minutes.
The Cavs got 26 points by Dion Waiters and Kyrie Irving had 17 points and five assists in 36 minutes. Former William T. Dwyer grad Alonzo Gee contributed nine points and six rebounds in 40 minutes while reserve C.J. Miles dropped down 19 points in 21 minutes of play.
