The Florida Panthers ended a four-game homestand and extended their losing streak to five games as they were blanked 3-0 by the Toronto Maple Leafs at BB&T Center on Monday night. It was the third time in the last five games where the Cats were shut out. The club got three of a possible eight points in their last four games at home.
Toronto(10-6-0) scored first late in the first period as right wing Phil Kessel gave the team a 1-0 lead at 17:04. The Maple Leafs added a power-play goal by center Nazem Kadri at 12:13 of the second period. It was followed less then two minutes later as left wing Clarke MacArthur scored at 13:57 and extended their lead to 3-0.
Florida(4-7-4) was held scoreless on the power play as they went 0-for-3 while the Leafs was 1-for-2. Panthers goalie Jose Theodore made 30 saves on 33 shots as his record fell to 4-6-2. Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens picked up his second career shutout as he made 37 saves and improved to 4-3-0 this season. The Panthers play their next two games in Pennsylvania as they face Philadelphia on Thursday and Pittsburgh on Friday.
